what boost controller, turbo timer and dump pipes?

i have just had a sevice on the car and they said i would have to replace the Dump/ front pipes don't

no what the are the said the couldn't clean them proable , boost contor i ask to boost the turbo up in the car

for more power and the said i would have to put a turbo time in to cool the car down when i turn the car off

Dump/frount pipes $500.00 - dump pipe & front pipe is easy enough to install yourself (if you're a DIY kinda person) plus you should be able to pick up a 3" dump/front pipe combo for around 250+delivery

Intercooler (tust) $1200.00 - not too sure on how much trust coolers go for, but you should be looking at no more than about 200-350 labour for the mechanic to install a intercooler.

Turbo timer $198.00 - don't bother

Boost controller $590.00 - can't help you with that one

from the looks of the quote it looks like a very rough estimate,

is that for the whole job done at once? or each part done in separate stages? if it is done in one whole lot you will no doubt save money, it will be cheaper - as while the car is on the hoist the guys will be able to do the fmic and dumps at once..

also you must remember that the fmic you are looking to get is a legit japanese trust cooler, not any like the cheap copy chinese/ebay cooler you see around

as for the turbo timer i would definitely consider getting one if you are going to take your car for spirited drives

(which judging by the ebc, is what you are planning to do :))

and on that note, it is my understanding that the quote on that ebc includes a boost gauge

im a bit bored at work, and thats my 2cents hahaha

:)

Get a $30 manual boost controller and install it yourself, or I can install it for you for nothing hahaha.... so damn easy.

But yes, I think the $1200 quote is about right for a decent front mount intercooler. Not sure about the front/dump pipes.

Turbo timer... if that includes the unit then that's about right too.

If you are on a budget........

You can buy turbo timers for as little as $40( ebay is your friend), thats all you need dont need all the fancy wancy things that come with it .Boost controllers are cheap too $30 for the very basic ones which do run into spiking issues though, thats what i have found with some of them.Turbo smart brand do reasonable ones for around $100 but yes very easy to install.

The intercooler , depends on what type of blitz unit but $1200 sounds pretty right also including install, but there are cheaper kits around, depending on what you want to do to the car, ie after big horsepower or something just comfortable for the street.

You can get complete exhaust throu many companys, xforce brand do a great bang for buck, i think just jap sell them for around $750 complete (including dump pipe) supply only exhaust.Buy it and get some the boys up here to help put it in for you or a workshop, many to choose from.

Hope this helps

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
