dont be too shy with the boost.

i ran 6psi through my rb25de for over 50k

i eventually swapped engine and box for the factory turbo variety not really knowing how much longer the old donk would hold up.

when the old motor came out and the head came off it was in excellent condition. i should have been more firm with it! :P

in the end i do think its just easier and cheaper to an engine swap

dont worry too much about the brakes, i stop fine now with some decent pads.

dont even waste ya time trying to turbo an rb20de - just go buy a rb20det it will be cheaper by far

cheers

Yeah for a few of you guys it may be cheaper for the engine swap....in my case it isn't :D But as you can see there has been a fair bit of success with a few people putting a turbo on the N/A without any trouble.

You'll find most of the people that say it can't be done have never looked into it or just plain don't know what they're talking about.

It's good to have people like Squizz & crooser as pioneers in this area :D

for the conversion i used a GTS Link

after swapping engines i have gone back to a factory 25det ecu (mostly coz it was a lot easier to do so to get the car running asap)

knowing what i know now, i should have just swapped injectors and used a factory 25det ecu for the conversion. (the afm and wiring loom are all the same

in the r33) that would have solved all the tuning issues/time. and if it pinged u can just retard the base timing from the cas.

the perfect mod for a 33 gts4

Hold the excitement! The stocko injectors are way substandard…and apparently haven’t got a hope in hell of even running at low boost! Luckily the injectors I’ve been waiting on turned up today…so at least I’ll be able to get them in tonight. The biggest problem is getting another dyno spot to turn up sometime soon….unlikely.

It is indicating however that some decent power is going to be found as I’m sure the stocko ones are the R32 turbo top-feed item :(

Will update you guys in a couple of hours after I see my car.

Dan

PS: Turbo mirage ewwwwwww

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
