Space Goat
hey all, just posting this for reference more than anything saturday just gone, me and the missus were heading down to jamberoo with her family for the day it started out ok until i accidentally closed my back door on a bag strap... i realised what i had done but having that electric mechanism in it, it had already started pulling itself shut... after that it wouldnt open and upon further inspection i found the bag strap had actually gotten itself stuck under the latching mechanism... as to not damage anything out of frustration or panic i decided to leave it... the next day, with a clear head i decided to investigate the problem... the only way to access the latch and motor is to carefully take off the top plastic followed by the moulded hard carpet skin... once that was off i could clearly see the actual linkage that connects the handle and the latch had fallen out... the only thing that i can think of what caused the problem is when the cable went to give the door closer some slack to tighten closed the cable had become too loose and popped the linkage open... in 15 minutes i had the problem fixed and the skin and plastics back on... so if this happens to you dont bother sending it to a mechanic and getting charged an hours labour its a pretty easy fix hope this helps Cheers Rick Edited November 2, 2009 by Space Goat Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/294580-problem-with-backdoor/ Share on other sites

skyline_man
Nice tip. Do you realize that you can use that mentality for almost everything related to fixing the car? All it takes is some common sense, patience and a bit of skill and you can do most mechanical repairs on your car. And i bet you'll do it better than most mechanics out there - since it's your car and you are more careful on your car than anyone else. But don't take my word for it. After all, I'm just a mechanic... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/294580-problem-with-backdoor/#findComment-4914419 Share on other sites
66yostagea
Actually when I want to modify bits I DIY. When it comes to major work like brake pads, end to end oil changes etc., I use a good local registered mechanic.
