most likely ur coil packs playing up if it started to sound like a rexi n ur engine light on... if u wanna confirm it get an engine diagnostic done n it will spit out the codes 4 ya... best bet is get a set of splitfires :( ... n at the same time sum plugs if they need changin

Jas is right, we have both had this problem and we both put splitfires in, there awesome but expensive (about 650 atm) and if you like there are plenty of guys that will help you install them, easiest thing to do, if your not 2 far away i'll do it for you. If you cant afford splitfires there are are others that will do the job....

update is it is at the mechanics and the mehanic cant diagnose what the problem is so i have to pick it up tommorrow morning and drive it until problem happens again then take it back to him immediately sound weird too you? do u reckon hes dodge?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's a moron  - if he had the write equipment he will be able to plug it into your ECU via the connector under your steering wheel to the right and it will give you a code and tell you whats wrong. Also the fact that the problem is spontaneous is a symptom of coil pack failure. A Dyeing coil pack will start failing more and more and in the early stages of failure will fail when the engine is hot or at high revs (where its worked harder and harder)

Where are you located mate?

Not even the right equipment, just a paperclip!!!!! All he has to do is the consult port self diagnosis with a paperclip and read Error 21 off the check engine light :)

Coil packs is the most common issue for R34 GT/GT-T. Get them changed. While you are at it - change the spark plugs (NGK platinum) too @around $15 each from a Nissan dealership - saves the hassle of getting to the spark plug area again later on.

Well there you go, a paperclip is more useful then your mechanic :P

well today i went to see how my car is going and he still hasnt found the problem so i told him that the coils are probably rooted and he just looked at me like im an idiot he said bring it back on tuesday so im gonna find another mechanic around and iam in portmacquarie like 4hours north of sydney.

"If" he is the only mechanic in the area. Buy the ignition coils from eBay or any other shop and get him to install it.

Make sure you specifically get the coils for RB NEO engines.

Just to correct you, hes not a moron because the diagnostic thing Nissan uses wont give you a fault code unless you have the engine check light on at the time. If it comes on and you turn the car off the engine light goes away, the only way your going to get the fault code is if the light comes up and you drive to the mechanic and leave the car running while he checks it out... :(

actually, my r34 had had stored the fault code primary ignition failure 21... we tested it when the light was off then tested it again when it came on ( which was litteraly a drive around the block later, lol) just to be sure and of course it was the coils.

lol hope he didnt think u were refering to the suspension springs as in the coils :(

how often does ur engine light come on??? like 10 mins after start up n then goes away after u turn it off n back on, or go on n off every 5 mins

also does it alwayz shudder n splutter n spit the dummy n stuff or does it come n go???

ive got a set of spare stockies u could try, wack them all in n inspect the plugs at the same time n see if the problem goes away... least then u will know 4 sure if u need 2 buy new 1ns

BUT its way easier 2 just get a diagnostic done if u can... btw u might have 2 use a GTT diagnostic

I'm calling him a moron for jerking this guy around, if he doesn't know whats wrong or he hasn't got the means or the know how to fix it then just suck it up and say so, don't waste ppl's time. When this happened to me i took it to my local mechanic and he had no freaking idea what was wrong and he admitted that he was unfamiliar with imports such as mine.

actually, my r34 had had stored the fault code primary ignition failure 21... we tested it when the light was off then tested it again when it came on ( which was litteraly a drive around the block later, lol) just to be sure and of course it was the coils.

exactly the same as me AYW550..

Because the Tester that my mechanic uses (the guy i go to primarily specialises with imports and most commonly skylines....) can show a whole list of past codes with his tester..... and then his tester can clear all past codes so there is a 'fresh slate' so that all future codes don't get mixed up...so it didn't matter if the engine warning light was on or off

mind you he was telling me that this new tester he had cost him some crazy amount (like 10 grand or something!!) for this thing about the size of a power FC, so if your mechanic uses a different one ( and lets face it, if your not dealing with imports on a daily basis your not going to have a 10k diagnostic tool lying around) then he probably has limitations to the interaction with the ECU. but by all means correct me :P

the engine light comes on about 20 mins after driving it. when i stop it starts to shutter then the light comes on and it goes away when i turn it off and back on. i think i might just buy one of those cord things that go in my computer and if it says error code 21 i can say that it is my coils. and he probably thinks i was talking about my coils coz i just had new springs put in by him.

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
