Greetings again from sunny bananaland.

March next year i am looking to tow my line firstly to the sydney area for a week or so and then on to melbourne.

What racetracks are available in your neck of the woods.

What accessibility is there to said tracks. (do they have open days etc)

What licensing requirements are there for these tracks.

Approximation of tracks to melbourne would be helpful as well.

What motel accommodation is available near these tracks, Preferably with off street parking for tow vehicle and trailer.

Any help on these querys would be much appreciated. :)

Winton Raceway - On the way down from Syd, ~2hrs outta top end of melb i think from memory

Philip Island - about what, 1-1.5hrs south of Melb CBD

Sandown Raceway - 40mins from the Melb CBD

Winton has a fair bit on usually.

Sandown/PI generally a bit less.

Sandown isn't too far from the CBD so accomodation etc, anywhere really.

PI - plenty of accom

Winton - can be a bit funny in surrounding area's due to the 'drifters' being asshats and giving motorsport people bad names, long as you tell em you aint a 'siiik drifter', you should be fine :)

Depends on what day mate.

The WRX motorsport calendar has not been released yet - we run out club championship off the back of that.

Until they release the dates, we won't know what days our buys are 'most likely' to be attending...

I think it should be out in the next month or so, perhaps sometimes it is Jan which i know doesn't leave you a lot of time from a far trip point of view.

But from the point of view they usually don't sell out within a day or two makes it easier on you. Some of the other days (PIARC/MSCA), i believe sell a bit faster and are more expensive... don't quite me on that one though, someone more motorsport knowledgeable will answer that bit :P

That said, club/forum people do tend to go to other non-WRX rounds, there are just less of those more hardcore people around

Just spent another day (monday) @ PI and it is easily the premier track in the country, nothing comes close. If you can time it right it more than worth the effort. It was by far the best day ive been to for ages.

All the tracks mentioned above will make you happy.

Make sure you have a valid CAMS license.

You can purchase an AASA license for Winton which is also valid for Wakefield Park in NSW but if you have a CAMS license then no need for that.

I suggest going to try out PI too if you're after a memorable experience.

PS. Sexy looking GTR in your sig Trent :)

cams l2s and greater will cover you for all the tracks mentioned. aasa will do winton only.

by far, PI is the best track (website is the worse tho...). very very addictive. will give you the biggest....um...smile

what you might want to try and do is:

Winton Test and Tune (20 min runs, no group, free for all) - Friday (stay in wangaratta 20 mins north of the track), cost for the track day ~$120

Sandown (grouped based on times, 8-12 min runs) - Saturday (its pretty close to the city, so anywhere you like) cost for the track day ~ $200

PI (grouped based on times, 10-15 min runs) - Sunday (on the island or just off it in san remo) cost for the track day ~ $220

piarc.com.au run saturday and sunday sprints at PI

wrx vic, alfa club vic and maserati vic run at SD quite often (at winton pretty often, PI not so much)

there are other days etc, just goto the sandown and winton web sites, they list all the days. PI website is...well it only really lists the bike events..

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
