Okay so far I have:

Luke_ENR34

Damo_R34

Aberax (subject to getting the day off)

Craig_R33 (maybe)

Anyone else? I'm bringing a carton of beer, and we might throw a few snags on the bbq ... all I need is your assistance to remove a box, then lift the manual into place ... 2-3 minutes work all up for beer and snags. :)

Come get some niggas! :D

Also ...

Just chasing down a few small items for the gearbox swap. Would anyone happen to have bolts for the pressure plate to flywheel ... and bolts for the gearbox to engine block (I hear the autos are different)?

Also, I'm assuming the tailshaft is the same length for auto and manual?

:D

:D

the tailshafts on my datto conversions where of different yokes and shafts , so doubt they are the same

don't forget the little wire that tells the engine its ok to start cause the car is in park, its on the automatics , not stickshifts. most cases you can just plug the two ends together and wire tie it out of the way. if you dont the car wont turn over at all. neutral safety switch and the VSS sensor will prob be different on the auto car as well. lots to think about .... good luck mate

Thanks Troy :D Already got the complete write up and reading thru it again this weekend to cover all bases. Going out after lunch to start looking into the pedal box swap and handbrake install to get ahead on the job before next weekend.

Also, anyone know of a good engineer/mechanic to face the flywheel for me? And neither my clutch kit nor the gearbox came with a thrust bearing collar (or 'throw out bearing collar') ... anyone got one lying around?

:)

Well, I've now since discovered that the clutch master cylinder cannot be installed without removing the engine, due to the plenum being in the way ... so looks like I might have some change of plans and be pulling the motor out complete with box.

So ... guess I'll be needing that engine hoist. :(

I find that hard to believe a motor or major removal to get to it,, japan doesnt design cars that need motors pulled for a simply clutch master change out.

even a plenum shouldn't need removal to get to it. most only take half hour max to swap out ruby ?

Well anyone who tells you the 260 and the RS4 are the same body, and all Autech did was stick in an RB26DETT, is lying/wrong. There are lots of differences. The 260 has a 4cm recessed section for the clutch master with booster. I'm getting the firewall recessed section and trans tunnel section for the shift hole/handbrake mount cut out of Nigel's wreck so I can suss it out. Maybe even have an engineer fabricate it in.

Another option is to just go with a 33 clutch master (non-boosted), but then the clutch pedal I have prob won't work. Its the little things they don't tell you about.

They probably use the body of a manual RS4 and just stick a 26 in it. I really don't see the point of making them different though :P

Just use the one without the booster. 32GTR's have boosters but i don't have one on my car, not really needed.

You need to do more researh roo. This has all be covered a long time ago..... Read up some more to make it as smooth as possible :)

I've found four different sources (albeit all being different versions/instructions), and it was the last one when I found out about the "recess". Even some of the info I found suddenly was inaccessible online! So I could not refer back to it. The original source I have for Stageas specifically is now back online :P WTF? Anyway, I went around to Dan's to look at Nigel's old 260 and sure enough, theres a recess. Might have to go the 33 master for now, just to get the job done ... but not too sure about how it will mate up with the 260 clutch pedal box. I just want to avoid buying extra parts, when I've already got the 260 parts there. :)

Lex, or anyone else with a manual RS4, can someone confirm this ... does the manual RS4 have the recess? It'd be interesting just to know.

:P

You do realise you'll be going from a push type clutch to a pull

No ... pull to a push.

But its not happening this weekend now. I cannot get some of the parts I need at such short notice ... parts that should have come by today have not, and I need to reschedule this for next weekend. Boo hiss!

Plan for next weekend. I'll let you guys know when I can confirm that.

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
