Just want to share my thinking with everone else. By next year with the 15 year old rule, we can get a 98 model R32 GTR for less then 17K and i also if we can get the R32 GTR for that cheap, i am sure it would crash the price with R33 GTR, i have just check out with few of the car dealer they say the price will change alot, they say that price of the R33 GTR will also be somewhere low 30K or by end of next year i will be below 30K for sure it will be like somewhere between 25K. SO IZIT WORTH to get an car now. Most of people is selling their car now for (R32 GTR for 3+ up or high 20K) . So shall i get a car now or just wait.

Thanks

CAlvin

if you've driven an 1989 GTR, you'll quickly realise that most 15 yr old cars in japan are either run down like crazy or off its metaphorical tits. Now considering your typical habib n mario will wanna spend as little as possible, they'll get a 1989, drive it for a few days and realise that it needs some major rehauling. At the end of the day a 1993 GTR is better than a 1989 GTR, so I don't see the prices being affected as much. Only possible price difference will be in R32's and even then only in early models as 1990 and 1991. 89 models are sure to nosedive in price to the going rate.

Then again car yards beign the conmen they are will try to flog 1989 15 yr imports as expensive models that were brought down under SEVS.

Besides with the new changes to the rules, the car has to be 15yrs to the nearest month. Meaning skylines will only start comin in in September.

If you wanna wait that long go for it, also you can already get R33 GTR's legally for around 30k, you jus gotta look in the right places and talk to the right people.

OK.... let say if i get the worst condition R32 GTR for just 15K and the cheapest R32 GTR is 25K (some even sell it for 30K), so therefore the different is 10K to 15K extra.

DO you know what i can do with the 10K to 15K extra i can do? I can just rebuilt the whole engine and some extra mod on it too, also i can have the few of it.

Why people after such an old car for that price, This is because hobby and if it is an hobby we better do it up ourself and have the fell of it.

Anyway this is what i think.

Also i am close to the car dealer and the price that he gave me will supprise alot of people if i say it out.

Thanks

Calvin

calvin, I can follow the price of a car from japan thru tot he docks onto the ship and into australian customs, then into compliance and out... even before it gets to the dealer. I was gonna go for an 89 GTR, but all the ones that I found in japan seriously left a lot to desire. And it would have cost me a way more than 10k to restore it to the condition of a 1993 VSpec 2 GTR.

But if you're looking at restoring it as a hobby then its a good idea. You'll learn a lot about the car while you're doing it too.

i guess getting a hacked GTR is nice if you want a project car.. and work it into a true showcar - as you'll really be building a lot from the ground-up and get to do it all your way. No point taking a nice 32GTR and hacking it apart by getting the interior retrimmed, resprayed, etc. Get an older one, speak to people around melbourne (retrimmers, engine rebuilders, etc). If you have time and money i think it would be very rewarding and great fun

They'll change the rules by next September, do you think that DOTARS or whoever havent realised what is going to happen next year? Shit loads of R32 GTRs, GTSt, MX5, S13, MR2, the list goes on.

But good luck anyway, i would have liked a GTR for the same price as my GTSt, but in reality I dont think it is going to happen.

there are still ways to sneak it in January if you make the purchase by mid Dec, but then u gotta pull some dodgies.

As in proving that you bought it before they changed the rule? As in changing the date on a certain something?

    • I've got a 2011 J50 that I imported six years ago. The unmodified factory AV system date and time has always been correct ( Japanese timezone of course ) up until last month. About two weeks ago, at engine start, the system wished me a happy new year ( in Japanese of course ). I can't think of anything that would make the system think that the date had changed, unless the GPS component has failed/reset somehow ? I checked the GPS reception in the system settings, and it can still see the satellites. Has any other J50 owner had this happen ?  It's no biggie, just annoying that it tells me the wrong date anytime I start the engine. 😅
    • Love following your adventures on IG, hopefully if you're still around in Japan when we visit again wouldn't mind going for a few beers with you (that's if you're keen on hearing how I hate Nissans).
    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
