Guys,

Recently my windscreen's crack is starting to show and I suppose it's high time to change it before the screen explode in my face while driving on the freeway.

I'm currently with Shannon's and I get 1x free windscreen replacement and they recommended O'Brian for my screen repairs since they come out to houses. Anyone used their service before? The windscreen would be for a r34. Besides O Brian are they any other providers who do wind screen repairs? Shannon's said any repairer will do since the repairer will bill Shannon's directly so I'm guessing here $ isn't a big issue?

One more thing, my window motor pads at the driver side is starting to wear out and as a result I now have a visible mark running from the bottom of the window to the top and also the annoying scraping sound (tok tok tok tok) when I wind the window up or down. Do you know who can replace these pads and also the scratched window? I've been told by a mate it's a bitch to replace windows in r33 as you need to position the glass via 3 directions but I'm clueless on the r34.

Thks in advance all.

O'Briens will do, doesn't matter if you're not paying, does it?

Driver's side window:

What do you mean by the pad wearing out?

Its likely only the tint that's scratched, not the glass itself, so check that on removal, and putting a new window in is easy, you need to attach it to the tabs (2 screws), and align it inside the water seals on both sides...its not hard though, just loosen the rails, move them apart, put the window it, close them and tighten it back up.

Pardon the amateur paint drawing. It looks something like this: -

Definitely sure it's from the outside and not on the tint. I'm thinking the pad is eating away after constant usage hence the bare metal of the motor is scraping on the window. Think it as your brake pads which are worn out and you will start noticcing scrapings on your brake disc. Mind you the car's close to 9 years old btw.

Teo, any window place would be good really. As long as they have the window you need. Let me know how you go, because I need mine replaced very soon as well!

As for the scratches, sorry Nic but Teo is right. It is the pads wearing out, so the window will need replacing. Again, I have the same thing... I've never done a window in a Skyline, but I've fitted one to a Mitsubishi Express van and I hated it... I was a 1st year apprentice at the time and took 30mins to work out how the f**k it went back together. Might be a little easier now.

one thing about getting your window replaced is they will generally use their own manufaturer so you will sometimes get the blue tint across the top of the window, if you dont want this then double check with them that it will not have it as it may need to be ordered from nissan direct..

i had them do a window for me in the front yard while i was at work come home and had a fight with them to fix it as i asked for a factory direct replacement and they said it was... i guess our ideas of factory direct were different :D

teo I work for shannons and Im pretty sure I spoke to you yesterday about your windscreen :)

lol small world after all. can you pls pm me your name so i can speak to you again in regards to the windscreen? Icalled again today just to reconfirm after speaking to o'brian about my windscreen. Apparently, o'brien only has their ADR approved windscreen which i'm guessing here it's made in China. Then i told them i wanted an OEM Nissan one and they said they will ring Nissan tmr but i needed to speak to Shannons to see if i'm covered for OEM replacement.

10 minutes on the phone with Shannons and after a hold for 5 minutes (i'm guessing the guy needed to speak to his TL to reconfirm ) they said Nissan OEM windscreen is covered by them BUT if O'brian needs to freight them, they will not be laible for the air frieght costs. However, if they said i don't mind the wait they can do it via sea freight which is covered. So yeah, everything looks alright from here.

Just a question though, who else stock Nissan OEM windscreens for r34. O Brian quoted me $490 for the 'adr' approved windscreen.

One more thing guys, if i were to go for the adr approved windscreen which is quite unlikely, i've been told that most of them don't come with built in antennas.

So.......... i'm guessing no radio then if i go for the adr approved ones?

Quote from dan666:

my one is the front windscreen so no antenna. Was 100% Australian made (not that it means much haha)

    • You're not the first person that's said that about this car lol. A Touring wagon GT in Spark yellow mica would be the dog's danglies 😆 I will keep an eye out for a future purchase for sure. The seats are almost like the OEM Recaros... electric adjustment for fore/aft and tilt movements except reclining.
    • Yes!! I love these! It's a shame its not the wagon though!   Thank everything that's holy that it doesn't have the interior of the Aussie delivered ones. Those seats are so much nicer.
    • I'm both sorry and thankful that you do that.
    • 2001 BE5D Subaru Legacy B4 RSK (3rd gen) EJ208 (pink injector) Twin Turbo 280PS 5-speed manual Full time 4WD "RSK" grade which means all of the above LQC option which means stock rear spoiler  I got it primarily to export to someone outside Japan who was interested. These BE5 Legacy B4 RSKs are going through a bit of a resurgence right know in Japan as they are one of the few cars from the "turbo, manual, RWD/4WD, 280hp gentleman's agreement era" cars that don't require stupid money to purchase. Which for some people might be a good opportunity to get as a base for restoration. If I can't find anyone to purchase it I will certainly be doing that myself over the long term. Why? Because it's properly fast in stock form, handles well enough for a GT sedan, there's still enough aftermarket and (if you can wait a while) genuine part support to make it a restoration candidate (<-- that will only get worse over time so it's a case of do it now or choose get a BL5 4th Gen). Mechanically it's fine, has only 89,200kms on the odometer. The problem with this car is that the body and exterior trims are weathered from at least the last 10 years being parked outdoors. I'm the 3rd owner, the first owner was the one that had it for 14 years and barely drove it, had a low-speed front impact (which didn't damage anything behind the radiator support) and got it fixed and sold it. The 2nd owner put most of the kms on it and parked it outside for the last 10 years, hence the door rubbers have seen better days but if you overlook those cosmetic details, it presents pretty nicely. There is some minor rust on the LH rear wheel arch which I'll have looked at too at some stage.  Also as you'd expect from a car this age, the clear top coat is gone, leaving a satin finish on the roof.  Mechanically it's fine (as you would expect from a car with less than 100K kms) but the steering does feel slightly vague around the centre position at higher speeds. So first on the list is to get the steering rack bushes looked at. There's also the Lock button on the remote which doesn't work, but the Open button does.... it means that the anti-theft system thinks it's always open? It seems like if you open the car and don't start the engine within 3 mins or so the anti-theft kicks in again without any beeps or signals. So if you got to start it after that, it won't. You have to push the open button again. That's how I understand it anyway. Just a small irritation but not a big problem to sort out. There's only one mod, the Wangan SPL muffler. Just a tad louder than stock. It's a really good mod for those who don't want to wake the neighbours but still want to hear a more prominent unequal length header EJ20 sound. Anyway I hope to get all those things done eventually, that is unless someone wanted to import it to their country from Japan (where I live). I'm open for negotiations as I really would like a Skyline... but this will definitely suffice in the meantime 🙂 *Disclaimer: This is how I picked it up from the dealer, minus the stuff on the back seat. I haven't cleaned the engine bay or done a thorough exterior clean, aside from spray painting the wipers.
    • Wow, even with the Audi logo centre caps. I love OEM wheel mismatches.
