Hey all,

Looking for a bit of advise and experience..

I recently picked up a needle bearing to replace a worn bronze spigot bush. Looking at the needle bearing its great quaility etc but my only concern is the rollers becoming dry and failing.

Has anyone used the needle bearing before and how many kms has it been in the car for?

Cheers

Johno

An apprentice that used to work for a place that sold roller ones told me they'd had some of them fall apart....If it were me i'd use a bronze stocker.

Thats what im worried about!

Thanks for the feedback guys, I think I'll play it safe and just use the stocker..

Cheers,

Johno

I think the stock bush isn't bronze, but some sort of other alloy that is self lubricating (cant remember the name of it right now).

I'd use the stock bush, they're only a few dollars from Nissan :D

It's a porus bronze, you are supposed to force oil through it before installing. So you block one end off with your thumb, fill it up with oil then squeeze really hard with your other thumb on top. Keep squeezing until you see oil seep out of the bronze. This way it become impregnated with the oil and provides the lubrication.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sintering

"Sintered bronze in particular is frequently used as a material for bearings, since its porosity allows lubricants to flow through it or remain captured within it."

So yeah add lubricant. My first guess is a grease would be ideal, but i havent checked the workshop manual maybe it says oil.

Thanks for your help guys, I put the stock bush in ($8 from Kudos Motorsports) soaked it in oil for a few days too..

The old spigot was a pain to get out.. wouldnt budge with grease but the "soaking paper" method did the trick..

Cheers,

Johno
