Well

i thought this would be the more appropriate area to put my build thread in, being that the R31 is currently naturally aspirated, and will be for a while.....

ok so not sure how build thread are normally written (lol) but ill give it my best shot and start from the beginning :)

soo i managed to pick up the R31 for nothing (woo hooo!) lol, however didnt know anything about it, not even what series it was...all i knew was that it was a reddy brown colour and had been sitting in a shed for the last 2 years.......

so here are the first pics of "Abby"

i thought i was quite lucky to find that she was a series 3 gxe......very straight body wise too.....

so first problem: hadnt been started in nearly 2 years....thats ok put a battery charger on for a bit, check radiator and oil levels.....go to start her.....hmmm can smell fuel pretty strongly.....

have a look underneath the car to find she popped a fuel line that was on the fuel tank.....

so ended up having to winch her on the trailer instead of driving her on...

decided to go to the car wash and give her a good wash! and she came up oh so pretty :) lol

so that was all on a thursday....purposely took the day off work to go get her considering she was 2 and half hours away from mildura.. :D

so the weekend arrived......

in the mean time i gotten a sponsor for the paint...Formula Paints in Renmark.

despite them trying to pursue me to paint her normally, i insisted rattle can lol so the colour? Matte Black....it couldnt be anything else!!! i had this picture in my mind of a matte black car with weld pro stars ...

so i started at 9pm saturday and finished painting at 5am sunday morning.......all i can say is never paint a car with rattle can lol i lost all feeling in the finger i was using to hold the nozzle down lol

suprisingly enough it all came out very well, and other than doing a few touch up while she was sitting in the sun in the sunday arvo, she looked fantastic! so photos were taken and emailed to Formula Paints....even the guys there couldnt believe how fast i painted the car...

so graphics.....yes graphics i know most of you probably dont like the fact i got graphics on the R34, but meh. lol

so talking to my graphic designer Simon, we decided to go with gloss black graphics over the matte black....aswell as all sponsors put on the car aswell.

so far sponsors for the car are.....DZignFX, Formula Paints, Discount Steel Supplies, Sprints Auto Parts, Berklee Exhausts

Looks great after a bit of a wash, didnt do the whole wash yourself tho? Cause the engine bay looks great. What did you use to clean it?

just used the pressure spray at the car wash.....

Looking good! How did you get so many sponsors so quickly? Lol. I'll be keeping an eye on this!

just went and asked, didnt expect tho.......as the old saying goes you wont know unless you ask....

Car looks the goods ...

What are ya using the car for since it is sponsored ... ( show car , or track car ?

drag car

End goal for the car?

supercharged rb30 drag car

well this weekend proved to be quite interesting working on the car...i had so many things i wanted to get done....and not all of it happened :(

the shifter i was given needs quite a few modifications to fit......

however i did get all the interior stripped finally, dash removed, aluminium on one of the doors, new aluminium dash made up... new leads and spark plugs put in, pod filter put on aswell, air con and heating all removed.......

the end result for the weekend really didnt feel like i got much done.....but the most time was getting the interior stripped and the dash removed and working out whether to use the stock dash or to make up one....

AND i didnt get my seat or harness on sat morning like i was hoping, so couldnt even put that in.....should get it this week hopefully...

also ended cutting the exhaust off for shits and giggles......sounded, well like crap hahahaha really needs a muffler on

i know nobody told me it was going to be easy.......but even know it is testing my patience, big time, and i thought the 34 pushed it.....not as bad as what the 31 is....

i guess its because i just wanna get out there on the track and race - for the fun of it....not to try and be better than anyone else, or to prove something, but to have fun, try and beat my time over and over and get quicker and quicker...build the car to be better and better....

also got a little but busy with the nightshades too :)

anyways here are the pics:

    • Version 1 aluminium airbox is.......not acceptable No pics as I "didn't like the look.....alot" Even after all my "CAD", and measurements, the leg near the fusebox just didn't sit right as it ended up about 10mm long and made the angle of the dangle look wrong, the height was a little short as well, meh, I wasn't that confident that Version 1 was going to be an instant winner I might give Version 2 another go, there's plenty of aluminium at work, but, after having in on and off a few times, and laying in the old OEM airbox without the new pod filter and MAF, there may be an option to modify the OEM air box and still use the Autoexe front cover and filter.... maybe This >  Needs to fit in here, but using the panel, and not the pod, the MAF will need to fit in the airbox though> I'm thinking as the old OEM box and Autoexe cover that is sitting in the shed is just sitting around doing nothing, and they are relatively abundant and cheap to replace if I mess it up and need another, it may well fit with some modifications to how the Autoexe brackets mounts to the rad support, and some dremiling to move it get in there, should give me some more room for activities, as I don't want to move the MAF and affect the tune Sealing the hole it requires to stick it in the air box is simple, a tight fit and some pinch weld will seal it up tight  I am calling this a later problem though
    • and it ends up being already priced in as though you're just on 91RON without any ethanol. Car will lose a bit of economy as the short and long term fuel trims bring down the AFR back to stoich or whatever it is for cruise/idle for the engine.
    • Oh, you are right. But, in Australia E10 is based on 91RON fuel and ends up being 94RON. Hence it being the cheaper option for economy cars. The more performance oriented cars go for the 98RON fuel that has no ethanol mixed in. The only step up we have left then at some petrol stations is E85.
    • There is a warning that "this thread is super old" but they ignore that anyway...
    • With 10% Ethanol, we're talking 2-3% fuel consumption difference. The emissions reductions and octane boost in my opinion far outweigh this almost non existent loss.    My tanks sitting at 80%. Luckily that should go down fast as I'm on vacation again for the next two weeks.
