had a good search but could'nt really find what i was after, as topic states once a pump starts to die do you just chuck it and replace (bosch, walbro, sard ???) or can you do anything to salvage it, any help appreciated.

ps whats a good price for a new one (only minor mods to car not big power)

why would you bother?

if the pump stops working it's ok as the engine stalls

its a big issue if the pump starts to die and cant keep pressure

this means the engine is still getting fuel, but not enough

the end result is, it will lean out and cause the engine to go bang

so for the sake of sub $200 why would you risk your engine

if the pump is in doubt, replace it

ok thanks for the replys, maybe i'm looking in the wrong place, car is running great just now and then (and it seems to becoming more frequent) the car to me seems to be starving of fuel and will eventually stall (changed filter, done aac valve) crank it over a bit and it will kick back to full power, does that sound like a faulty pump? will disconnect fuel line next time it does it and see if it's pumping, any help as always appreciated.

got an o44 and have opened up the tank, std pump seems to be enclosed in a plastic holder and sitting at 45deg in a plastic cradle and seems to be anchored to the bottom of the tank, anyone familar with this? is there a trick to releasing the pump, does it come out with a release system or do you remove the whole assembley and if so whats the trick, and can i utilize the std sock or what do i do as far as a replacement sock goes,

any info greatly appreciated.

The pump should be on a bracket and will just slide out of its mounting points. As for the sock, im not sure, i thought the 044 just picked up through the bottom of the pump but i dont know enough about them. I have a tomei fuel pump which is just on a bracket the same as the stock one with a hose and a sock on the end of it.

you will have to mount it up to the stock bracket somehow, not sure how you do that with the 044. I got the tomei cause I heard the 044's have trouble picking up fuel at times when under 1/4 of a tank

The bracket clips in at the top of the plastic holder. You push the top part of the bracket out so it slides out over the holder and then just lift out. Its one of those do it once you'll never forget how jobs.

thanks guys, yeh cradle slips off rails on the bottom of the tank just needed a bit of a jiggle, now the fiddly bit of modifying the bracket fitting a sock with the right angles , hose clamps, cable ties etc i guess it's not rocket science but the last fuel pump i played with was mechanical

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
