I have just fitted a R33/R34 Hicas lock bar to the rear of the stagea

The overall length of the lock bar is approx 3-4mm shorter each side so I am getting excessive toe out

I have tried adjusting the toe out but have run out of enough thread on the tie rods to be safe.

I might be able to fit some shims between the lock back end and the tie rods, but will need to check there is enough thread.

Anyone else had this problem?

Maybe stagea hicas units are a different width to R33/R34?

hey mate have you gone and got a pro wheel alignment? when i chucked my lock bar in she had huge toe out. tried ajusting them myself however couldn't get it to fix up. thought the lock bar was too short. took it to the place to get it aligned they did it no worries all fixed. however mines with a r32 but it sounds like a similar problem to yours. maybe try that before you rip it all off again?

PS was fun driving to the tyre place with -48 deg of toe. tyre squeel the whole way.

best of luck mate

Hey there

what are you doing with your hicas setup? The reason i ask is I have a noisy hicas motor and if your willing to separate the motor off the unit I might be interested.

The length doesn't have to do with it being for manual or auto does it ? Or is it designed for both?

cheers

Only manual stagea's have hicas

I have fitted a manual stagea rear cradle to the rear of my car, so I have no need for it. My car was originally a auto.

Even if it came with hicas standard, I would still be removing it

You can have whole hicas rack for delivered for $40

I have a r33 gtr rear cradle so no dramas with my lock bar length however when I was doing the conversion I found that the 300zxtt may have the same track (wider cradle) like the stagea's have. Not sure but you may need a longer lock bar check the length of a 300zx bar, might be the length you need.

  • 2 months later...

Finally got under the car and measured the hicas rack

It is suppose to be a R33/34 hicas lock bar

The stagea hicas rack is 425mm long

The hicas bar I have been supplied is 405mm long

So this giving me major toe out

Will have to sort it out tomorrow with Justjap.

Just spoke with Justjap

R33/R34 are 405mm long

But my stagea is 425mm??

May have to make a special or lengthen the one I have

Have just confirmed the R33 factory hicas rack is 405mm long

So the stagea, or at least the one I have is not the same

Looks like I will have to extend each end 10mm

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
