Everyone thanks so far but I think you are all getting carried away....hehehe.

I was saying I'm thinking of fitting a aftermarket non atomspheric BOV. My stock is still holding boost. So iis there adjustment required to be made on the BOV? I have a return flow FMIC and cat back exhuast at the moment.

Cheers

Daniel

The simple answer is: if your Blow Off Valve has any adjustment mechanism on it then yes you can adjust the valve to suit whatever amount of pressure that you would like to release. The amount is dependant on what you want to do, so no-one else can answer that except you. A mechanic and/or tuner will help you in this respect after you have worked out what you want to do and why you are doing it.

Why are you thinking of putting a atmospheric Blow off valve? They are illegal and generally make a standard vehicle run erratically but they do sound fooly sik maaaayte. On a highly modified vehicle they have their place but add little to a basically stock engine.

If thats what you're after then go for it, remembering that the change will have consequences.

The type of intercooler won't make a difference unless you're also changing the position of the BOV. If you're just mounting it on the stock RB25 position then just make sure that it clears the bonnet and that you also remember to block off the return pipe from the stock BOV.

The type of exhaust that you have fitted will not make a difference to the type of BOV fitted.

Does that clear things up a little for you?

my opinion, forget about getting aftermarket BOVs even plumb-backs. the stock Nissan BOV can take alot of boost without leaking. Kier Wilson's own skyline had the stock BOV in it and he reckoned theres no way they'd leak so dont see the point of changing it if it doesnt make any difference at all unless you're looking at beyond 2 BAR or 28psi boost but then again it wont be a street car anymore if you run that much boost.

if you want induction noise, get a pod filter and be sure u get an airbox made up for the pod to avoid cops trying to sting you when they see the pod and it will also be shielded from engine heat. u'll get a bit of power out of pod filters too.

Thanks all for the advice. That was what my tot was also that it will make no diff on a stock motor even with just the exhuast and FMIC in place. Rather new to this turbo game (previous car tricked out twin cam civic).

Anyways was told by a work mate of mine who claims to drive a skyline before back when he was in the east. That I should have by BOV changed cos of this 2 simple things that I have done. Kind of suspected that he knew also next to SH*T cos he told me my HKS exhuast was useless no power cos it makes no sound (not loud). He said loud exhuast equals power. From there I started to feel that he already know nuts.

So that is why I came in here and asked you guys out there proper who are into our type of cars and now much more.

Cheers

Get better friends :)

As R33_Nick mentioned before, getting a pod filter or even a high flowing filter for your stock airbox (such as the popular K&N filter) will give you a more efficient power source. If your exhaust is a cat-back only then getting a turbo back exhaust system with a high flowing catalytic converter will improve things even more. Most engines works better when they can breath better, on both the intake and exhaust sides. Some engines need restrictions but a RB25DET will be better with less restricting "breathing".

Since you already have a Front Mount Intercooler then you may as well spend the money that you were going to spend on the BOV on upgrading theinduction and exhaust side of things first.

After that, then you can start shovelling in money as your quest for more power, traction and handling etc etc grows.

Keep asking in here " There are no stupid questions, only those that are not asked".

Your friend was right though, the more noise from the exhaust the more power there is, just see those loud Hyundai Excel exhausts. Those cars are beasts, especially with the frangipani stickers on them!

This... Possibly the most accurate statement ever made on SAU.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
