I have a type m front bar and am hoping to get a FMIC soon. What i was thinking of doing for looks and to get more air to the FMIC was cut away the plastic bar where the number plate usually goes and mount the plate under the indicator...

Has anyone done this or have any photos of people who have??

straight forward process from what i know. I am also going to be doing the same. Havent got any pics dude but seen afew and in my personal opinnion i reckon the m spec front bar with the middle chopped out with a front mount looks better than some aftermarket front bars.

I agree, not only that but an aftermarket frontbar sprayed and fitted is around $650+ so its certainly not cheap.

I want to get my front bar done also (when finances are available), also need my fmic re-aligned too.

(just for reference)

Do it once, and do it properly.

Many people just cut out the bar and leave the cut plastic and metal exposed, attracting unwanted attention. Cut the middle peice out, take the bar and off cuts to a plastic welder and seal off the cuts (refer to attachments). Mine looks as if it came out of the factory like that. Has the added expense, but looks 1000% better and neater.

yep thats definately the way i want mine to look. Nice job Al, have to remember this thread for my future FMIC installation. BTW what are the dimensions of your FMIC?
Thanks all, really appreciate the kind words :). The plastic welder did a great job, and the finish is seemless (can't tell where the joins are).

Dimensions for my fmic are unknown to me :D, as the ic is custom made from a truck core (and yes it works well :)). My mechanic fitted the biggest core, that still allowed the supports for the intrusion bars to remain. The centre of the bar has been cut out, but everything else has been left in tact and is very sturdy. Some people get the biggest fmic they could get their hands on, and in the process remove all supports and structual regitaty, bad mistake.

Just been mounting uo a Hybrid Monster FMIC bar and plate. Ebay for $710 delivered with insurance and it is a very nice cooler and will flow up to 800hp with 3" pipes. Continuous auction by the looks as it was posted again as soon as it had finished.

No pics yet but I had to cut away behind the bumper into the plastic and some of the steel support, about 15mm and the fit is very close but nice. I have it level with the bottom of the bar (stock series 1) and use two stainless drilled plates at the top off the mounting holes where the plastic is mounted to the steel support.

I'll be back wit lo res pics shortly.

OK some lo res pics. the inlet and exit are in line with the side vents which need to be trimmed. I use a tyrannosaw with the bosch hacksaw blade.

The plate was from Bunnings and is an 8 hole thing I cut in 2 and drilled out the countersunk holes for the 8mmx1.25x30mm bolts. In the bumper I used dome head screws with nuts and washers to fit under the lights. The inlet and outlet are 3" so i will join on 90 deg bends and then reduce to 63mm and I want to use electrical conduit (63mm) to see if it handles the heat. Nice and orange and will polish nicely and wont transfer heat into the air and costs $26 /4m.

Did you respray the entire front bar after cutting out the middle piece and using that bit to cut up and cover the 2 side holes along with the small holes along the bottom and top where the multiple brackets connect ?

In short, YES.

Here are a couple more pics.

To mount the plate i just used a cheap pair of small "L" brackets from Bunnings.

And before you say anything, i know my car is in desperate need of a WASH! :D

Dont see many around in my area that keep the M-spec bar and cut the centre out of, its either they get another front bar like gtr etc etc or its hidden behind the numberplate support. I like the idea of it, relatively cheap and still nice lookin

I think mine was done like this as well, I cant see any deformities.

I have a new bar to attach, but my driveway would destroy it, so i'll be selling my Type M in a few months.
