Here are some pics from the John Bowe course up at Mallala today. Thanks to Kim for organising - a high calibre field today making the old R32 look like a bunky old piece of crap next to the R35s, GT3s & F430!

glad that you enjoyed the day!

although i was only out there for a few hours today, i managed to get sunburnt - note to self: use supplied sunscreen next time.

however, in my defence, i was distracted by all the nice cars around me so had no time to put sunscreen on...

F430 and the pair of R35's got a lot of attention. to those who didn't go: you missed out on some awesome sights and sounds.

- Kim

nice pics Kim - the twin R35s look ready to take over the world :D

and yeah those carbon brakes on the F430 are nuts. crazy how hardcore the setup is for cars that don't tend to see much track time. Tom gave it plenty though once he'd got into the groove.

Only complaint I have about the day was the clown driving my car ;) best lap of the day was my first and just got progressively slower throughout the day :) struggled to find grip on initial braking and turn-in all day. The new 2860s were a lot of fun though! :D

edit: that's a lot of smilies in 4 sentences!

Those brakes just barely fit under the LMGT4's on the 32 haha

yeah they are pretty snug :) 345mm rotors + 4-pots under 17's. if their stopping power was matched by tyre grip I'd be laughing, but instead had loads of lockups... need to sort my pressures i think.

i thought i heard your car locking up at the end of the straight (before Turn 3) a couple of times - wondered why that was happening with your big brakes?

That generally happens if the brakes are new, as in new rotors, new pads coupled with the clamping force of brand new rotors in the calipers. Thats why you need to do a good dose of kilometres wearing the brakes in correctly to avoid this issue.

I had the same problem after fitting mine two days before a track day. It was a fun 5 laps i tell you, but then they settled down.

yeah it was happening all day and into the northern hairpin as well. Suspects are a combination of tyre pressure issues (started way too high, then lost the ability to check as the heat of the valve was melting my supersheap auto tyre gauge!!), but main problem is I think my dampers are shagged (old bilsteins which were on it from Japan) so the car was bouncing and tyre lifting off as I went from full throttle to full braking. need to spend more $ on coils :P

were you running semi slicks? (i can't remember) as their start temp is a lot lower than street compounds (i start off 28-30psi cold with mine)

re dampers - i had a similar problem with pogo'ing with my old (standard) suspension - the front/back weight transfer was all over the place and the car felt like it was lifting off on the wrong side. new coilovers fixed the problem easily. it's a never ending upgrade cycle! :P

yeah got new A048s, started at 28psi but they were up to 40 straight after the first session. bled them back to 32 hot, then lost the ability to check due to melting tyre gauge :ermm:

yes it is never ending, tossing up whether to spend 2k+ on some S/H tein type flex or ~1k on super streets. SS aren't ideal but they are cheap and will probably be better than what I've got now. I still have a near-new set of Tein Type Flex from my S15, but they're pretty useless due to not owning an S15 any more.

40psi is quite a bit and would have felt like tires were squirming but bummer about your tyre gauge!

imho, the more you spend on suspension the better a result you'll have, but i'm sure that there are plenty of threads here about suspension choice...

true, but the more you spend on EVERYTHING the better (kinda! :P )

I will wait and see if anything decent comes up s/h in the next month or so... meanwhile need to get rid of my S15 coils so I can spend more on better things

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
