Hey,

Im 18 and getting myself a skyline soon, I was supposed to get it earlier but they f**ked up the compliance paper work and now they delayed the arrival...

So, I was thinking, being young as I am i should make sure to do all my speeding on a track, but I don't have a cams license so im not sure what i am and am not, allowed to do.

What can u do without a CAMS license on tracks such as eastern Creek?

And what would I have to do to get a CAMS license?

I hear that the L2S is the most common and required CAMS license, is that right? What does this allow me to do?

Is SAU an CAMS affilicated club?

Please dont link me to the CAMS website, Ive looked there but i know personal experience from club members will be much easier to understand and more relevant to my actual application of the license.

CAMS L2S will let you do sprint events at many race tracks. LAtely a lot of people are using the AASA licence for track days and such (same price - $55 for a 12 month licence).

Either of those should let you do the kinds of events you'd be looking at.

Good on you for having the maturity to take it to the track. :(

ok I'll try in order.

There isn't much you can do without a CAMS licence on the tracks.

To get a CAMS licence you need to be part of a CAMS affiliated club and then fill out some paperwork and pay some money.

L2S is the most common and lets you do most of the non-door to door speed events. I.E. Track days etc. full clarification is on the CAMS website. I wont link it.

SAU NSW is CAMS Affiliated. They have a section of the SAU forum just for members. SAU (the forum) in general, is not CAMS affiliated.

And good on you for having intentions on heading to the track.

You will need a L2S to get onto Eastern Creek. Cheapest option is a private practice day. They hold them about every month. Check out easterncreek raceway website for dates & prices.

If you want to get on a race track without worrying about club membership, Cams licence etc, just to get started, you can look at Wakefield Park - Speed off the streets day.

Check out their website for prices and dates. You can buy a 12mth Wakefield Licence for about $50 and then pay about $100 to get access to the track.

Wakefield Park is a good starting point for beginners as it is very safe with plenty of run off, is a tighter circuit and not as high speed as Eastern Creek.

There is nothing like driving your Nissan on a race track. Go for it!

SAU NSW are running a beginner's track day at Wakefield Park on 18 June. Its a great chance to get out there with an instructor in the passenger seat (very unusual with current insurance rules) and a great way to learn. Wakefield Park runs under AASA not CAMS (generally) which is about half the price of CAMS.

Once you have done a day or 2 most people move on to super sprints which require a CAMS L2S. Given Eastern Creek is the only track in sydney you will need the CAMS license sooner or later.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for all the information, looks like i will be getting myself a L2S then, and i'll also check out Wakefield Park about those beginners days, thank a lot for the information guys =)

Also, is there any testing or anything else in order to get a CAMS license? Because I thought it was like a course thing where you were tested afterward, it seems a little dangerous to just be handing out these licenses to speed isnt it?

I was also looking forward to being properly taught how to take high speed corners and such

the full race licenses require observed driving tests and medicals, but L2S is intended as a beginner's license and does not include those requirements. It restricts the events you can enter until you obtain the higher licenses

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
