^^LOl i knew the regulation where tough but that is pretty rediculous. Its a stock car lol that would mean that everything with an exhaust is an epa?

When my mate got done a while back, the bloke told him to take the pod off and it reduced it by a few DB (on back off pressure)

I have the fujitsubo legalis r on my R33 GTST and it was 90 dB when tested

Some how i carnt see how EVERY after market exhaust can be illegal because that means you can only ever fit stock parts and if that car goes out of production like our Skylines then parts stop being made and become harder to source and pattern parts start to become more avab and at the fraction of the cost. (sometimes)

This of course happens before hand as well but you get the picture.

We have a company called aj auto parts that basically sells pattern parts im sure you have something close

There not stock parts so would they be illegal????

Its doubtful that if its aftermarket exhust it will pass the stock r33 cat back is pretty borderline to legal ranging form like 86-90 and thats real quiet so doubtful any aftermarket would pass , can come close though

You mean a 15 year old mufflers that have probably fallen apart? :D

Also remember there is so MUCH restriction that it's blowing so hard it can trip off the meter as well.

Things like opening up the plug gap, good ignition spark and so on can all have noticeable effects as the dB meter things get set off by a misfire and so on.

there is no such thing as a legal aftermarket exhaust.

Erm... what? :woot:

You can get aftermarket exhausts - legal. Fact!

hokay

i go punch daalder exhaust in the head now lol

from the info they gave me, with restrictions being so tight any exhaust modifications they do can easily trip the 90db reading.

Who said they were lying?

Perhaps they just don't have the skills/ingenuity to make a high flowing quiet exhaust

Oh, if you are (vaguely) interested, the Legalis on my M35 rates at 88dB

ive just got my r34 gtt on p plates.. its got pod.. stock smic hks gt-rs turbo stock dump and full kakimotor exhust... guesing thats illigal? i drive like a grandmother ;)

main illegal part is that your on your p's in a turbo car. if the pod filter is boxed than its fine.

nah not worried about the turbo part.. ive got a exemption for some days of the week and a managers letter for the rest of the week... the main thing im worried is defects... i thot a pod without a box is fine with stock cooler... in melbourne tho

giggity giggity alright...found an exhaust place i like close enough to home to walk back, and they're the vic roads suggested one too for testing and stuff - waverley brake and exhaust blackburn road crn ferntree gully road.

Got a db test done on Friday, it was 94 :-( The guy said he expected much worse but it wont be a hassle to get fixed, i've booked it in during the week to have two new mufflers installed to replace my existing ones, and he'll weld the two cannons i have back on to look schmick.

no room to tuck the exhaust, so i'll have to raise the suspension by a cm or less on each shoe, which hopefully wont make it look like a 4x4, cause seriously the 10cm wheel tool is only just scraping that one section by a fraction.

Here's a pic of my exhaust years ago when i first got it, the twins are excellent never looked back so happy. From the 6 times i was pulled over last year they never checked the height, but after next week's appointments i'm going to be feeling way more confident now with all the crack downs etc. can't wait for the weekend's members event :P

lol to 6 times, where is this weekend cruise event?

Hey how long did it take to complete the test and how much? I want to swing past there also in that case

It's a paid up members only cruise, there's another post on here somewhere about it, but once you're signed up you get into the members forum section...

As for the test, i called the day before and he said drop in at 10am. He came out by around 5 past with his kit, set it up, turned me on, revved it a few times to 4200, then called me over to show me what it was doing. Only cost $37 and I could have left 5 minutes later, but decided to wait until a hoist was free so we could get under and see what could be done to make it legal.

Did you check with the authorities whether that managers letter holds any real value? Only thing I'd trust is the exemption.

I believe the rule is one intake modification so as long as you have stock cooler should be alright.

plus i dunno how strong would the argument be that you need a skyline for work purposes lol can't see how it is a very practical "work" car lol

Just stay away from the knox area and you most likely should be fine. skyline exceed the 1.5 ratio- kw per tone anyways so they are technically illegal any way u look at it

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
