So if EBC/MBC are illegal (are they legal if you engineer? what about if you get the $2500 EPA test? is there a cheaper test that makes it legal?), how can you increase boost to make use of a better setup?

I'm talking GCG high flow turbo, HKS FMIC, injectors, exhaust etc, so easily capable of 16PSI or more. How do you go about increasing the boost? I'm assuming here that the stock wastegate and boost controller will keep it at whatever value is 'normal', so say 7PSI for GTST turbo.

IE, what is the point upgrading all of that if the gains are fairly minimal (30kw or so for exhaust and fmic) with stock boost? That isn't to say 30kw is nothing, but seems pointless to do all the rest if it won't be used (I know a GCG will spool faster though, but ignoring that).

Cheers.

... Have you READ the EPA thread you posted in???

Anyway... logic would state that you cannot increase boost, especially on a hi-flow, without some kind of ECU/Tuning.

So therefore you are already illegal anyway... so what is the problem with boost control?

Illegal is illegal, there is no "im less illegal because i dont use a EBC" scenario.

Apart from that, just use a upgraded actuator.

Believe it or not I have, and while I may come off as some dicky 17.999yo about to get his licence and therefore car, I'm actually 22 and legitametly interested in obeying the law....

So an upgraded actuator is the most .. 'stealth' way to go about it, is there some threads I can read about that (search failed me, and yes I went through all 17 pages of 'wastegate actuator')?

Obviously an EBC is probably the most versatile, but I'm assuming an adjustable actuator would be able to go up/down a bar or two? IE, will upgrading from the stock ~7PSI actuator to a 1bar/14.5 be 'good' enough or will that be in danger of blowing the turbo (which currently hits 15psi or so, highflowed stock GCG).

Otherwise I guess $300 EBC and hide it somewhere.

Two settings, FAST and MISSUSSLOW yea?

How does it jib in terms of mechanics and road-worthyness? My regular mechanic is a pro but stickler for the law, I'm not sure how he will react in terms of the EBC being there when I take it down. Do I gotta find another one? (If so, status tuning, re customs, anyone in the north/eastern burbs?)

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
