Hey all, still quite new to this forum but i do love the skylines!

Basically i have recently sold my car and am looking to get an R32 GTS-T and swap a RB25DE engine into it. Still on P plates, yeah lame i know lol but i am keen on it. R32 GTS25s are such a bitch to find and are way overpriced anyways :)

Was wondering if anyone knows any wreckers or workshops that do the engine swapping with a good job and good price? Yes i've looked at the workshops/wreckers thread but don't know which does the engine swapping sorry :X

Really do hope to join the club soon!

Not that this will change your view on any of this but you should be aware that just because you have removed the motor with the turbo attached to the side of it and replaced with a non turbo, does not mean the police will think or believe your car is non turbo as all the registrations for the car will always say turbo and thus you will be fined.

wait for a clean N/a skyline to pop up, they do, but it can take months, or by a crap box and get something special when your off the p's.

Car will still be illegal (it is build plated as a turbo) so unfortunately you idea has a major flaw.

Also i believe motor swaps might also be illegal for P platers. The rules says unmodified cars... engine swaps i would imagine count as a modification :P

Broskis, i've done countless research on this and asking around. VicRoads says the car details does not come up with the aspiration, only the displacement. So from changing from a 2.0L to a 2.5L i would need an engineers certificate. I rang up a few and they said it was legal on P plates (mind you these are the guys in charge of what's legal as they are up there somewhere). The point is that what i'm doing is legal. I'm only forking out so much cash for a NA is cause i'm gonna keep this car for a long time even off the P's (with another engine swap :P) so i need your help in finding a trusty mechanic.

Look at your cars build plate on the firewall. That is all that matters to the Officer defecting you unfortunately.

This is once again the standard issue where VicRoads say one thing, and Police can still defect you for another.

I'm still not totally convinced how they are not counting the engine swap as a modification... As it's a modification and the law is very clear cut about P-Platers modifying cars... Given you can't drive a GTS-t in the first place etc.

It is all a grey area - however if you do not have it in writing on VicRoads letterhead then whatever you've been told means nothing to anyone. You MUST get it in writing.

Sure i'm modifying it, but not to give it more horsies. I'm simply converting that car into a lower spec that the R32 already comes with it (GTS25) (from 2.0T to 2.5NA). Both VicRoads and engineers say it is fine to drive it, given i have an engineers certificate and have the engine number changed. Why would a policeman defect me if i wasn't driving a turbo, 8 cylinder, high powered vehicle anyways? This is something that you can buy. If i was driving a TT Supra with a VicRoads exemption then ok that's fishy, but i am not.

you have to realise not all cops know about cars and if on the build plate it says this car is a turbo charged vehicle and you say its not who is he going to believe?

So the answer to the question of why is because the policeman does not know how to tell if it is turbocharged or you cannot prove its not turbocharged...

Why has this thread turned into flamesuit galore lol? All i wanted to know is a few places to get the swap, i think i know i am responsible for my own car. I'm sure theres some document i can keep in my car to show it has been converted anyways, if not then that's my loss. It's not like i'm gonna be driving like those dickheads.

Well i thank you guys for being so kind but that wasn't the answers i was looking for. I know the R33 comes with stock RB25DE (and +6 factory kW as well!), and thanks for the suggestion but i don't want it because personally i love the looks of the R32 and want to keep it for a long ass time.

its unfortunate, but you will get fined for it.

the model will come up as a gts-T on the build plate and most cops are familiar with that as being a turbo vehicle.

they dont care about engineers certs as their word is all it takes these days unfortunately :ermm:

i would imagine that you could talk your way around it most of the time if you did the swap, but is that a chance you are willing to take?

Then you're better off buying $500 Corolla and save up for Turbo Skyline when you're off your P's.

If you MUST have R32, are you willing to compromise for 2L GTS (still hard to find)? If not, refer to above paragraph.

Man, you guys don't understand. I love this car lol. I'm sure i can show them the engine number, engine build to get away. If i ever don't i'll be ranting in this thread hahaha. (GTS 2.0L doesn't have enough grunt)

I'm terribly sorry to inform you that Victoria Police aren't that dumb as they look. You're going to reamed by them when they ask you about the motor swap with all these holes of intercooler piping. Cos these days motorist especially whoever like cars are criminals according to ACA/TT.

Like I said, your best bet is buy 33 GTS or $500 shitter and save up until you're off your P's than going through all this headache - I wouldn't be surprised if it could cost you more than you can buy 32 GT-R by the time you're on fulls (just estimating by buying a car, get the motor swap, insurance, engineers certificate, potential fine and court case should you be a stubborn like your post suggests).

Sucks to be P-plater these days.

Seriously, don't bother wasting your time, and this forum had plenty of kids coming on asking if Turbo to N/A swap are possible - It is but logically NO.

You can either take our advice and don't go ahead or you can be stubborn and find out the true cost the hard way, I know what I'd go for.

dudes stop having a pissing contest.

He wants a list of workshops/wreckers who can do the conversion.

If he has any trouble with cops/vicroads that's his own problem and as he said he is happy to deal with it.

Give these guys a shot;

ill piss on you in a minute

You should be fine without an engineers certificate - as there will be no modification to the chassis.

Also the R32 was issued with the RB25DE from factory, hence, no need for the certificate.

I had to get a cert when I converted to a 25DET but only because I modified the gearbox crossmember. It still retained all original engine mounts etc etc.

Also RE Customs or Dr Drift would be able to do the work for you - Just bear in mind that it will cost you quite a bit to do the whole conversion.

My 2 cents.

    • Haha luckily we don't have emissions, inspections, or any laws against power adders here. They only thing they somewhat keep an eye out for are ridiculously loud exhausts.
    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
    • If you are keen, have a look at my build thread. Car is for sale for the right money or straight swap for a F80 M3 LCI.
    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
    • Hey everyone! Im so grateful to be apart of this community and ill do my best to be apart of this. Firstly, i'm not disclosing my real name due to in real life circumstances surrounding my privacy and public image (sorry lol) Secondly, The only thing personal I am willing to share is that I'm from Sydney and a descendant of one of Sydneys largest mortgage firms. I got gifted my first ever car, a 2022 Porsche Cayenne and I love it to death. Ive been driving it for about 5 or 6 months now and honestly Im so grateful for my parents for gifting me this vehicle. However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
