Removing Windscreen Wipers???

Ok this may be a bit of a long shot.

What I would like to do is to find out if it is possible to remove the enitre windscreen wiper arm (both front and rear) so as to repaint the arm where there has been significant wear over time.

I am not actually talking about the windscreen blade, but on the arm the paint coat has worn away to the metal. I don't think it was ever powdercoated or anodized from the factory... just sprayed.

Does anyone have any ideas how this can be down (hopefully by myself) or is a lot of serious disassembly work required.

Shouldn't need any lube. If you press down on the long edge and lift it up from the round edge at the same time (if that makes sense) it should come off pretty easily. It's kind of held on by spring tension of the arm. Counter-act the spring tension and it's not that hard to get off.

And no the wipers aren't powdercoated from the factory :) You're probably even best to just replace the whole lot with new arms. That's what I intend to do, if I can find a set the right size.

Yeah to respray the wipers is a bit of a pain. You need to sand and prime them to get a really good result and they've got fiddly bits on them which frustrate.

I might look for some replacements aftermarket. Wiper arm manufacturers recommend replacing them every so often anyway. Probably B.S but for looks i might be sucked in, just this once though. I think the aussie delivered R31 arms would be a match.

i took mine off just the other day and resprayed them in flat black... looks a lot beter, didnt sand anything back either and its as smooth as new.

i rekon save your money and buy some $5 flat black paint. takes about 30mins, then just let dry for and hr or so.

I wasn't suggesting that you buy new ones just because the old ones need paint, it's just that after 8 years or more the original wipers can become a bit of a sloppy bitch. The tighter spring tension on a new pair will help wipe the glass better when it rains.

hey guys

sorry to bring up an old thread...but my front wipers dont come off...ive tried without WD40 and with they just wont budge...other guys have tried and it wont... :headspin:

anyone can help?...any suggestions would b great coz im fresh outa idea's on this one

I kid you not I spent probably a frustrating hour trying to remove them. And to make you feel worse the front ones are better then the back ones. But I promise you follow what everyone has said in this post. They do come off. You kind of have to jiggle and play with them... sometimes a little harder then you think. They'll come off.

If you intented on repainting them like I did they do come on schmick.

i had trouble puling them of after i have removed the bolt.. it really did work pushing on the long end so the blade flatens, then pop it off.. this should be in the diy section please.. thanx guys . again!!

the tension on the spring changes the angle of the arm that goes over thebolt, thus making it impossible to remove without pressing on the join of the wiper arm

doing a search would have yielded about 10 threads where i have posted this exact answer

Well.. thanks for bringing this up from almost 3 years ago... I need to do this!

My driver-side wiper has lost a gradienting area, which often catches the setting sun and directs it right into my eyes. My sunnies don't stand a chance!

Some of us dont want to brake thing by pulling them, thats why this is hear i guess. and im not a expert on wiper blades and how they work.. but good thread ..haha

      Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car.       Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that

      Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

      What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
