292kmph On Autobahn

As the title reads, I just (half anhour ago) was doing 292kmph on the A13 just south east of Berlin. In a porsche 911 mk2!

I have done 280kmph on an autobahn last time I was here, but in an audi tt. This time I was hoping to reach 300, but the traffic was too bad even though it was nearly 12:00 at night.

I will post some pics and a video once it's all cut down.

But let me tell you that was f#cking insanely amazing.........

Unfortunately I have to return it tommorrow, I have had it for three days now driving all around Berlin and I would highly reccommend it to anyone who is coming to germany. In fact I am considering forking out some more dosh to try it again before I go!!

But for now I will have to be happy with that.

Sorry but I've been on the Autobahn too. Went to Europe years ago and caught up with some Belgium mates. They lent me one of their bikes and we went over to Germany. I managed 255kph on the Autobahn on a worked Suzuki TL1000R. Was the most awesome feeling.

Its one of the few places in the world where you can do it legally ... so why not if you're there! Its legal and as long as you do it within your limits, I see no harm done. I own a TL1000R (for the past 9 years) and I helped with some work on this particular TL1000R whilst in Belgium ... so I'm very familiar with this model. I'm also no stranger to a race track, having done track days for 8 years and raced 1 and a bit seasons (before a crash ended one season early). Doing 255 in a straight line is alot safer than 220 at Mallala or 245 at Phillip Island.

I say good on ya mate. Its legal and its one of those boxes you can tick off in your life. So long as you're sensible whilst doing it.

I remember we were on the Autobahn doing low 200's (220-230) and we constantly had Porsche's, BMW's, Merc's coming up behind us flying passed or us moving out of the way for them.

A lot of Australian's cant comprehend this since we are so used to 100-110 being the max speeds and these Autobahn speeds sound ludacris to us. To Europeans 200+ is nothing and quite normal on roads designed for it.

Also to people that think it is dangerous and suicidal, there are less deaths on the Autobarn every year than there are on any other European highway. Also to compare to Australian road deaths, Australia has nearly 4 times more road deaths than Autobahns do (Total of German, Austrian and Switzerland).

Also the OP said he was in a Porsche 911, not a bloody Toyota Camry. Cars like that can quite easily handle high speeds and it really comes down to the driver being in a good state of mind and control.

Autobahn + Porsche = Heaven!!!

On the Autobahn 200kph is a normal cruising speed. You see nannies in their 60s do that in their Audi wagons.

Another point to make ... I've lost a very close friends as a result of speeding cars, and I've lost family due to speeding cars also. I make no association with their deaths and this Autobahn high speed topic. So why do you garetb16? This is a totally different environment to Australian roads, Australian road rules and Australian laws. The roads are brilliant for high speeds, the Porsche is built for fast speeds ... and its the f**king Autobahn

I was amazed at how good their traffic management and road maintenance is in Europe (with the exception of London and Paris) compared to Australia. I'll be going to the IOMTT next year, and if I get a chance to blast around a section of the track during my stay there, I'll certainly be doing it. Things like that are once-in-a-lifetime experiences!

I can see Garet's point,it's tragic to lose loved ones to the stupidity of others, but it's also easy to let raw emotions cloud your opinion in a different context.

On our roads, surrounded by our largely ill equipped drivers, this would've been a silly move. However, on an autobahn, in a Porsche surrounded by well trained aware drivers; this would have to be the safest place.

Everything in life carries risk, even walking down the street. A life well lived balances risk with maturity.

Is the term speeding related to the "speed limit" or is it being used in vain when talking about the Autobahn?

I don't see 200km/h as speeding on the Autobahn as it is legal but needs to be in the context of the level of traffic, conditions and time of day.

If we are going to single out a driver on the Autobahn as irresponsible for "speeding" then what do we call F1 drivers, V8 supercar drivers, HQ drivers when they are plying their trade?

still a chance of a lifetime, the number of un-speed limited autobarns is only about 6 now too so it may not be long before they are all gone

and 200kmh is considered normal for euro cars, a family friend just bought an new audi a4 and the handbook says to avoid long periods above 220 if possible lol

Yeah, well I wanted to get an audi Rs6 or I was looking at even a gtr. But this was the best and cheapest option. The Rs6 required a 30,000 euro imprint from a credit card for anyone under 30!!!

I am not asking for comendation, just sharing an experience that I had. Which is realated to the same reasons we are all on this forum. Performance cars (all be it stagea's), and pushing them to there limit.

I am sorry for your loss. And I am aware of the risks that I take, in fact it is pushing through those fears that makes it so exciting (as I'm sure everyone on here is aware).

Every time anyone steps in to a car there is a level of risk involved, regardless of the way you drive it. There are ways of managing that risk but in the end we all make our choices around that. In my opinion here in germany in a porsche 911 on an autobahn, is one of the least risky puiblic places to try and reach 300kmph in the world.

Genreally drivers over here are much more aware, and curtious. You would never overtake on the outside lane, if someone is coming up behind you, you move out of the way. If you see someone breaking quickly up ahead you put your hazards on straight away to warn all of the drivers behind you to stop quickly. And so on.......

Last time I was here I had the audi tt for one week and had driven over 700km's of the german autobahn's before I pushed it to it's limit.

This time I had the car for three nights, had done 600kms in it, had then sussed out a particular stretch of road and a time, waited till I had a clear stretch of a few km's and put my foot to the floor. And am sory but I don't regret it.

How long did it take to get to that speed? Was it pretty much full throttle the whole way? Any cars overtake you?

while i may have a different view to some. its only because i have seen it from both sides.

i know its legal and the roads etc are all great quality.. just trust me it sucks when someone you love is taken because of a unexperienced driver in a Hi Powered car. (im not suggesting that he is un experienced) even Peter Brock crashed and died, so it can happen to anyone.!
