It's quite surprising what they do and don't know about vehicles when inspecting...when I had a cop inspecting my engine bay I was thinking to myself "there's so much I could teach you about looking for faults" lol. Yet they look in kick panels for aftermarket ECUs...

You sir, have never had the Knox TMU on your tail :)

Wanker or not, you don't always get left to your own devices but I agree you have much more chance of getting pulled over when you are driving like a wanker.

Thats right, I got pulled over driving like a grandma doing 75 in an 80 zone along Burwood Hwy. Cop gave my the car a very thorough inspection asking why are the wastegates silver instead of the stock bronze colour and asking about the engine management if it was a Apexi PFC or Motec etc. My car and engine bay look very standard and in the end he got me for a boost controller. He also went through the inside of my car looking for the ECU and EBC. This particular cop knew more than enough to pick anything unusual (illegal mods) and by the way listing parts and giving me advice on my mods he was definitely very knowledgeable on the car front. My advice would be to make it look as stock as possible and hide anything illegal as well as you possibly can and avoid driving around these areas (knox, dandenong etc) on Friday / Saturday nights, good luck.

It's nice that they don't take into consideration the fact you were driving sensibly/sedately at the time of pulling you over for inspection, unlike, I don't know, 90% of the other cars on the road. Did he have you blocking a lane on Burwood Highway for the inspection too?

Paint the injectors the same colour as the stock ones....And if the cop finds something illegal eg PFC, EBC.. Just pull a gun on him, blow his brains out and get out of there fast..I heard that works well in America..

Yeah it was real nice of him. I guess he had nothing better to do. I would have blocked off a lane on Burwood Hwy, but I pulled over on High street road into a bus turn off for that very reason. Definitely won't be driving around that area at night again. Been a nightmare having to get / pay for all the stock components for the EPA.

thats the petite guy in knox area. ive heard he owns a evo him self, and also one of his family members died in a drag race so he promised him self to nail down as many imports as he can the kantt..

let the pettit rumours begin..

i hear his dog got run over by an import while it was poopin on a nature strip and the guy lost it sideways in a residential street.. so he promised to take it out on every import he sees...could be wrong though

Have you cleared the EPA yet?

man up and run the larger turbo, make sure you sure use a low mount manifold. heat coat the turbo, leave the stock heat shield on (if any?).

another words, do it and hide it. if the engine bay looks like a race car, you ll get pwned, if it looks stock you should be fine.

i saw a cop checking over a friends skyline, even looked at the turbo, completely missed it was a HKS turbo.

in summary, basically every mod is illegal these days.

LOL. Petite rumours...the old wives tails of the import scene.

And it's not always Petite...not unlike Senator Palpatine he has since trained a few apprentices in the dark arts.

Top call Birds. I find it so amusing that Petit is the whipping boy of of SAU Vic and most of us have probably never met him

Nah mate not yet :D. I just found the stock exhaust and it was the last part i needed to get. So now i'll work on putting back what I can myself and then save up a bit to pay someone to do the rest. Hopefully sorted by the end of this month. Its killing me not being able to drive it. Did you get your beast fixed up from the GOR cruise?

    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
