Hi,

I have bought myself an R33 gts-t with 86,000ks on the clock.

I was tol although its early it would be a good idea to change the timing belt and tentioner.

Is this generally recommended or should I wait for the 100,000?

My question is do people have a brand they recommend over another? (ie gates racing?)

I want to do the tentioner as well, can you buy these as a kit? if so where do i get them from and how much should i expect to pay?

What should i expect to pay to have one installed? (just so i dont get ripped off)

thanks SAU members!

ok I have some info here after ringing nissan and need some conformation:

I was told I MUST replace these things and these would be the prices... my questions are these resonable prices and do I have to replace all of these?

Timing Belt - $105 +GST

Timing Belt Tensioner - $118 +GST

Idler Pulley - $300 +GST

Cam seals - $21 each +GST

dos this sound reasonable and do I need to replace all these? I would like to go genuine but thats alot of money if these dayco or gates ones are good quality also

PS they quoted me $214 +GST for an oxygen sensor.. is this over the top and should i go an NGK for half the price or are they no where near as good?

thanks!

    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
