dude.... keep the excel as a run around... and get a second car to to put in the garage...

im up to my 16th car... and ive always had a shitter to do the daily drive...

these days you can get a a r32 or r33 for under 10g... so the 10g your going to spend on going nowhere in the excel... you could have one... i know it seems far away... but honestly... im only 26... but my p plate days seem forever ago.. i spent so much time and money on my first car... and it got me nowhere and was pointless, and i hated it when i was done... i could have had that money for my next car..

or if you really must mod your first car... which is fine... then start with something decent.. like a honda civic.. or an ae92 corolla sx... or something in the n/a silvia range... mod the suspension/brakes and chassis while you drive it... do some track days... then when your off your p's put a nice sr20det in it.. or do an R31 and drop an rb25det in it.

if you mod your excel... you will get bored and disappointed with it... you will spend money that you will never get back... you will be lucky to sell it when your ready to move on...

DO NOT BUILD A CAR TO TURN HEADS!!!!!!!!!!!!

build it for yourself... build something for you and you only to enjoy and appreciate... if it turns heads..it will be because you love your car and you dont care what they think... not whats done to it and what colour it is.... at the end of the day... noone really cares about anyone elses stuff.... you have what you have and they have what they have... i dont find hotted up excels.. (no matter how hotted up) to be at all worthy of a glance... let alone a head turn and thats why i dont have one, they dont interest me otherwise i would have one.. think about what it is you want to achieve.. because even if you put an evo engine in it and its 4wd and its got big shiny wheels and a big doof doof stereo and a full interior... its still going to be an excel... and the question everyone will ask is "whats the point?"

you say you only earn $350 a week... that seems good to me.... with a house and bills... i am lucky to have $350 a month to spend on other things... let alone sink it into the car.

If it's for a road only car, I tend to agree. If you want some competition, then the Excel series is big enough to keep you very happy.

I n fact, the Excel drivers wear smiles just as big as anyone else at the end of a track day / rally, and on average I know that they have spent far less than just about anyone else to be competing on the day.

Being 17 im guessing a turbo or any real mods will cause too much hassles, and cosmetic mods will help get the engines mods found.

Id go for a good sound system and alarm if your looking to waste money, best bit is it can be removed and installed in your next car. It can make a boring drive more entertaining and it's not that hard to do yourself. If im going on a long trip id choose a slower car with a better stereo than a faster car with a crap one ( realistic cars, no porches etc)

Also if want attention you can turn it up at the lights and shopping centers, 99.999% of people will think your a dickhead but there is a slight chance some other kid likes the song and wanted to be forced into hearing at high volumes at that particular point time, and thats alot better odd's than someone likeing a bodykit or exhaust on an excell. Excells are a good cheap reliable shopping trolleys i'd keep it that way, you dont have to go fast or stick plastic and fibreglass to your car to have fun driving.

Maybe go to the autospeed website and look making a cai and brouse their other articles, it's no frills stuff and you will learn about modifying your car without spending way too much money on brand names. You will make slight gains in performance that will be comparable to wasting big dollars on off the shelf stuff.

Yeah, look man you can't polish a turd. Being on your P's makes it hard, you can't do an engine conversion or a turbo conversion or anything so you can't actually make any real power at all out of it in your current situation.

You can buy S13's for around 5k with the basics - I would spend any more on buying one than around that figure, simply because they've all been thrashed to death.

How about you keep your car, perfect those driving skills and save a shit load. Buy a nice S15 or something when you're off your p's. Say you've got 3 years to go, you could probably get a GTR for mid teens.

And yes, the skylines were sports cars - they were introduced at a sports car price. That's why a lot of the younger kids don't understand why the new R35 is so expensive.

EDIT: I noticed someone mentioned the excel racing series, contrary to popular belief, the excel racing series was pretty much introduced so that someone with not a lot of money could go racing. There's strict rules on the modifications done to the excels, hell I don't even think you're allowed extractors.

the problem with the excel racing series and the excel rally series...

is that the CAMS approved cage costs more than the car.

to get started in the series.. and have all the safety aspects covered.. will cost you the price of a neat s14/r34.

mine runs really nicely, the gearbox seems smooth, and mine has powersteering, the brakes work perfectly, i dont know what youve been driving

buddy, but it sounds like your bullshitting

s13 silvias look like boxes with wheels, worst car ive ever laid my eyes on.

ROFL

GTFO off this forum. we don't care about excels.

this parody song is so the average excel driver. a fking joke.

put it this way. for an april fools joke, the forum admin on nissansilvia changed the picture of a silvia to an excel.

i have never seen a "modded" excel i haven't laughed at. chromies, shit coloured paint jobs and ofc extra rep for the half falling off body kits. add to the the neons and the full JDM stickers, excel and lancer (even most N/A supra) drivers give car enthusiasts a bad name.

i might report your user for trolling, seriously no one can be that stupid.

No it won't. Not even close.

$4-5k will get you out there with all the important stuff covered. $7-8k will get you a competitive rally car with DMS and a good cage.

Some of the track day guys run without cages, but I'd never try that.

dear retarded OP

a few things

someone said on this page that you can't polish a turd. and to an extent

i agree, and disagree with that statement

i agree with it because you can't polish a turd. but then again on the other hand. i disagree. because... umm.. oh wait thats right... you can't polish a turd.

bro. i'm not going to bore you with my opinions. i've seen some posts and am kinda gathering what state you're from... IF your PM is active then PM me

let me know what state you're in... where you're from and what your budget is for a car.

if you're not a complete loser i might just make 2010 the year you finally lose your virginity.

and in case you can't read between the lines. i have a car which you may be able to afford that will literally make you piss in your pants when you see it.

think i'm joking? think again

i mean literally.

piss.

your.

pants.

you'll see this bad ass mother fucker and forget where the fuck you're standing. i mean totally forget where you are. you'll feel your stomach muscles sorta let go of everything

then before you know it you'll have the hot tingly feeling of warm flowing piss. trickling down your left leg. i dunno why your dick points that way man don't look at me funny as if i'm expected to know why it goes down that leg. what am i. a doctor?

soon after there will form a wet patch on the front of your favourite jeans. you'll feel a bit embarrased but dammit you'll feel relaxed.

all i know is you'll piss on the inside of your pants. it's gonna suck, no doubt. but if you are not a gayman. it may be worth it. because if you buy this car that i am talking about. the minute you'll sit inside it

girls will literally jump off cafe strips from their tables where they'll be enjoying a hot milo with their boyfriends and rip their miniskirts off and tell you that they're ready to bone

it'll be fun to bone for a few weeks but after a while you'll want to settle down and find a girl you can call your girlfriend, maybe one day make her your wife... have a few kids inside her.

and you'll say.

shit yeah.

thats my car bitch.

seriously fagmo.

PM me your state and budget.

or have you already bought an excel or some shit

if you have

then add "can multitask" to your resume under special skills motherfucker

becuase if you bought an excel

then you're gay and dead to me. at the same time.

aight well in WA i dont think the turbo law for P platers apply, but i did hear something about the power to weight ratio..

not saying that im gonna get an engine conversion or anything like that, i might start saving for the s13, although i dont like the shape very much, a few mods here and there could make it decent,

are sr20det engines common to find?

s15's are pretty expensive ( for me anyway )

perhaps ill start to save for the 33 gtr / gtst, or 32 gtr

wuld it be worth buying.. say a 6 grand 33 gtst, and modding it?

or going for the more expensive ones? and just leaving it?

    • I know why it happened and I’m embarrassed to say but I was testing the polarity of one of the led bulb to see which side was positive with a 12v battery and that’s when it decided to fry hoping I didn’t damage anything else
    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
