Kristian at Iron Chef is on the job and we're bidding on an M35 today so wish me luck. I will post photo's and details if I'm successful, but to let you all know I'm looking for a white car with an aero kit or similar. I have looked within Australia but I just don't trust the dealer's here and can't guarantee the km are genuine so I'm going the import route.

My plans are to put some 18's or 19's on it and lower it a bit with an exhaust, phenolic plenum spacer and maybe a brake upgrade if good pads don't give me adequate braking power. I'm no longer interested in building ballistic cars but would like something with around 180-200 rwkw as the wife has to drive it with our kids in it. Really lloking for ward to the purchase after a lot of thinking. Hope you guys can help me out with the mods and would like to meet a few of you when I pick the car up in Melbourne in a few months.

Cheers

Rich

We'll just have to see I think. The tune seems like it's taking forever so I'm not holding my breath. From what I've read regarding the high flow the Gt30 seems a little laggy which is something I don't want. Is the factory turbo a T3 frame or T28 frame? I'm not doing any of that until the ecu issue is sorted as it appears to be an expensive exercise with somewhat compromised results.

Not sure it helps but the turbo is a Garrett M24N, GCG Turbo's can do a high-flow rebuild for around $1955.00 (inc gst) or 10% discount for SAU members. Best to rebuild the existing turbo as it's space is quiet limited and heat seems to be it's biggest issue, so upgrading to a different turbo could be quiet difficult and expensive.

The turbo in general is laggy, the Gt30 upgrade is worse but as you have pointed it out it all comes down to the ECU remap and what kind of results can be achieved. Various piggy backs (emanage ultimate/haltech interceptor) have been tried with limited success, the engine management on the M35 is quiet advanced.

Hopefully SAS will make some more ground on the testing and development of the remapping in the new few weeks.

Good luck with the bidding....great fun doing it this way....mind you the wait will drive you and your wife insane!

170-180AWKW's is achievable on the standard turbo with steel impellers(so rebuild needs doing)..200AWKW's however you'll need a bigger setup(f#$k all room to do a different turbo) with a whole host of other little bit's as tangent said.....GCG is no good above 400hp from previous experience!

Well 180awkw will make for a nice quick grocery getter imo. As I said I'm over mental cars for a daily and just want something with enough grunt to overtake when I want and have a little bit of fun, for anything else I will get a track car. I just hope the M35 is as good a car as the JZX90 which was fantastic and it only had an exhaust on it so had probbaly 160rwkw but the car only weighed 1350kg!

Yes I am excited already but I know it will be 2-3 months before it will be ready to pick it up hopefully SAS have the ecu done by then!

What else do I need to know?

What else do I need to know?

lot's....they hate summer for a start....much more so than RB's. FMIC, Nismo thermostat, additional trans cooler, phenolic spacer and regular oil changes should be at the top of your list for mod's...oh and get rid of the cat closest to the turbo ASAP....I reckon half the turbo problems with these are because the cat's 200mm's away from the turbo.

Biggest improvements are from getting a decent dump pipe with the exhaust, Suction pipe and FMIC!.....biggest improvement after that should be from the reflash when it happen's.......one of us has a Nismo ECU on the way as well :) !

Yeah I saw that regarding the Nismo. I only hope the tune is something worth having as my fear is that it will just be raised rev limit, more timing and fuel which is not what is needed. Anyway I guess we shall see.

I haven't heard from Kristian yet and the auction started at 9am so I'm guessing I have missed out on that one.

not necessarilly! :D can be negotiating - that guy works wonders he does!

furthermore

i'm (also importing a) toyota soarer myself, and it's not the WAIT that i don't like

it's the constant questions from my gf

"why haven't you found a car you want"

"has the car left port?"

"have you heard if the car's on a boat yet?"

"does the skirt suit me?"

bla bla bla...

haha

this must be an exciting time for you man! i would love to see how this turns out!

I can tell you from experience that my M35 is almost perfect as a daily driver and still lots of power and very easy to drive. May not be as fast as some but I beat those same cars off the line by a long way. My list of mods are:

Dump pipe from turbo with full 3" exhaust

Plenum spacer

HDI Front mount

Transmission cooler

Bilstein shocks

Selby swaybars

R32 front calipers with slotted rotors

In terms of the best bang for your buck, the swaybars were the best value by far and the biggest improvement to handling. The Bilsteins are also great.

The Exhaust improved the mid range and the dump pipe made an even bigger difference.

The Plenum spacer improves low rev performance and smooths out the performance so it feels less laggy. It also improves fuel economy which is a real benefit in this car.

The Front mount will come into it's own in summer when the car wants to retard the timing due to the heat.

A turbo rebuild is on the cards but will be the stock dimensions with ballbearing and metal impella and WHEN the ECU reflash is ready that will be done also.

Good luck

Cheers

Andy

If you miss out on this one have a look at the link below. I could not recomend a dealer more than this as I am sure many other people on here will also. Nothing but good experience.

M35 Stagea

This car looks great with exhaust and Nismo cluster.

I think you can be confident that that Km's from this dealer are genuine.

Yeah it passed in at about 100,000 yen over our budget Rich - on to the next ones :D

That is schmick, not a fan of white but it's a bargain at that price. I notice it's an RX not an RS as per the add but there isn't a huge difference (even though Iain and I like to argue abou it!).

Very nice car indeed!

I agree! I think t hat is a good price for a great looking car, especially when you consider it's from a dealer. I've seen M35's go for more than that rpivately that I thought looked very average.

RX is better. actually the beige interior is horrible. i wish i got an RS with black leather.......... anyway too late for that now haha

good luck with the car richzx, there is plenty of M35 info on the internet

Thanks guys I rang them and am just waiting on the auction and registration reports to verify the km readings as the white one has a nismo dash. Andy has very generously agreed to have a look at the white one and also the silver one there. I agree the interior colour on the white is poxy, does it look that bad in the flesh?

if you unfortunatley loose the bid... i just won an auction on the one i bought!

its a 4.5 grade with B grade interior

it should be here in the coming weeks, however i MIGHT sell it because i thought i didnt want one with sunroofs. but i do lol

its got leather, coilovers exhaust

anyway WHEN it does comes and you still havent found the stag you want. ill get in contact with you again

oh and also i have all the grade sheets and pics n stuff that i have. so you know its all genuine!

    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
