Hey bud,

I might be able to help you with that as my front bar is currently off, what exactly do you want a picture of? birds eye view of the air box + pipes, picture from the front??

I'm stepping out for a few hours but if you let me know what you're after I can take a few pictures for ya when I get back :D

hey dude while your at it im after a visual on the same area while u have your bumper off if you can manage it? im looking at putting a gtr intercooler into my gts-t (r32). a) where are the stock intercooler mounts located exactly? b) are they detachable or are they permanently fixed to the frame in the gtr?

if possible i would like to use original gtr intercooler mounts with the gtr cooler, so it is positioned just like a factory one.

if you could post a picture of the mounts that would be awesome!

Hey lads,

Sorry for getting back to ya so late in the evening, had a very busy weekend. Hopefully these pics will show everything you guys wanted to know

In terms of mounting the cooler, from what I could see there are two brackets either side of the cooler which are removable and there is a bolt that connects onto the bottom of the radiator dead center

Cheers,

Sean

hey sean'o thanks for that, much appreciated. so it looks like i need that whole black thing that the bottom center screw goes into as well.

one more question. what diameter is the piping for the rb26? in the 2wd r32's the piping is 2.5" (63mm) but i found a gtr intercooler and they say the outlets are 80mm (3") which would present another small hurdle for me. are you able to confirm this??

ryan, i obtained a pdf of the engine manual and took this screen shot for u. its the same page as the one sean'o posted above but a bit easier to read and make sense of. if you or anyone else wants the manual in pdf just let me know

Yep correct mate, that's the blow-by piping that returns air coming out of the blow off valves back to the intake of the turbo's, it's called the "recirculation tube" according to the manual.

I'll have a squizz at the cooler when I get home from work but I think your logic is right, it's probably around 3" diameter

Perhaps some of the other RB26 lads can jump in before I get home and clarify this one :)

Cheers,

Sean

Sean'O!

Your FMIC is in need of paint stripping, looks like someone just half ass'd the black spray paint :)

Paint strip it back and get the bare metal going and would looks nice.

ha ha, now that you mention it it's really obvious, never noticed that before :) .......I've still got some stripper left over from my plenum so I might do it this weekend :miner:

Have you striped your FMIC?

The white paint behind the front bar is also um...questionable ha ha, don't think the guy even took the front bar off when it was sprayed...and then he also couldn't be stuffed masking it properly *face palm*

Yeah man!

Took the front bar off and stripped the front and sides of the Intercooler and looks nice.

BTW your Air Resonator looks detached from the Air Intake...

If it is, you might as well take it off to save you some weight (well not that it weights all that much anyway).

:(

sorry i should have been more clear i was after a pic of r32 gtst cooler piping, sorry

hey this might give you some idea, its how my engine bay looked a few years ago. its obviously missing the factory airbox but that makes the piping a bit more visible anyway. because theres other crap obstructing the view i drew lines along the route of the pipes so u wont mistake them, red is indicating the airflow from turbo to the intercooler and blue for the airflow coming from the intercooler heading towards the intake manifold. is that what your after?

post-74178-1277101621_thumb.jpg

lol they dont go down the same one. there's 2 holes there. one for each pipe, one right beside the other. at the bottom-most part of those pipes that you can see in the picture they run directly down from there straight through two holes and then they bend off to either side of the intercooler directly below.

are you converting a non-turbo R32 to turbo or something?

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
