Using driving lights

Driving lights are designed to illuminate the road over a long distance. They are the same as the high beam (main beam) head light and emit the same lighting pattern.

Road Rule 218 states that drivers must not use the high-beam headlights when driving:

unfortunately the cop is right, they should only turn on with high-beams, not with your regular lights

Foglights are not driving lights are not parker lights.

Need some more info on the lights in your bumper bar before working out what the legal use of them is... If I got booked for fog light use when it was actually parker lights or daytime running lights etc then I would contest the fine.

It's light spread, position, colour and wattage which determines what a light is.

Yeh i got told off by a TMU-Officer for having my Parker-with foglights on (series II front bar) he goes my fog lights can only be turned on when its foggy or something...

yer officer is correct...cannot use foglights for regular driving unless its rilli foggy like others have said

and fog lights have there own switch thats seperate to high and low beams

but they come on why the parkers come on, and when the normal beams come on, and high, i believe this is the way its been wired from standard.

is this correct?

been lucky so far (which is bound to run out) but my chaser cam with factory yellow fog lights (jdm yo) and ever since iv had the car iv been driving with it on all the time and so far have not been pulled up by hit. thats going through a few booze bus, RBT and TMU pulled me over to check the car and all lights were on and nothing was said.

unless you have HIDs on a car which is not meant to have and its blinding ppl then yes you deserve to get a fine and a defect. but if its just factory ights and all it does is give you better light without blinding ppl then i cant see what the problem is.

most new cars these days have "driving lights" just for looks. turn them on at night and they dont light up shit.

just standard yellow.. thats it. :/

What a joke....seriously!? The S1 and S2 "fog" lights are far from blinding and far from pointing upwards. I honestly can not believe that the TMU are SO f**king petty. It seriously boggles me.

The S2 certianly didn't turn on with the headlights, they had to be switched on, perhaps yours have been wired up or might be after market? Hard to tell without a picture.

True "fog" lights are yellow. I believe this is because of the the yellow light wavelength and the fact yellow light is absorbed and scattered less by the airborne water particles, so in saying that these cars simply have driving lights.

My new Audi has day time running LED's AND driving lights. If I was pulled over and asked to turn them off I'd tell the officer he could blow be if he so desired. I suggest you do the same.

/rant :/

You're spot on mate.

the op has an s1. i'm assuming the lights he is talking about are the ones in with the indicators. i know that in my 33 they didn't have any lights in the clear section, only in the orange section for the indicators. but i have heard of 1 or 2 people having lights in there.

either way, simple solution is to simple disconnect the wires. that way you can't get booked again.

Agree with you 100% they arent even bright, they most certaintly dont blind me in any way. its people that fit there own headlights or HID's that blind me. also agree with you with the TMU, how petty can you get, must of been a slow day.

I think it's usage is pretty much in the name! It doesn't actually look that cool to have them on, being blinded isn't fun imo.

You probably hate them with as much zeal as I.

Nothing worse than cresting a hill on a motorbike only to be blinded by fog lights of a car coming the other way. It's not much fun using the white line on the side of the road as a guide so you don't end up in a ditch.

And yes, it is illegal to have them on unless it's foggy. They are meant to be treated as per high beams.

Do you ride a motorbike?

If not, then I suggest having a go before you start making claims about them being harmless.

    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something?

    • BRUH, one of the biggest mistakes of my life..... and i've had plenty ;[)
    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.
