hey guys just bought myself a cheap r32 to get back into drifting with

have been an sr20/silvia man up till now so know little about whats the best way to go about modding a rb20det, however im guessing the basics are much the same to an sr

not looking to spend much $ at all

all the car has atm is a fmic and zaust and boost tap currently running standered boost atm.

ok so question #1 - are stock r32 fuel pumps as shit as stock silvia fuel pumps, aka soon as u wind up the boost they lack pumping power, how much rwkw can the stockers hold?

#2 2nd hand r33 turbos are cheap as chips, is it worth bolting one on over the standard 32 turbo?

#3 without a after market ecu/tune what is the max but safest boost level to run? assuming i have a r33 turbo on the car

#4 are there any cheap piggy back/ ecu retunes that are popular with rb's

#5 with a tune and r33 turbo whats the likly rwkw i will see? is 180 possible? if so at what kw do the standard injectors need replacing

thanks heaps looking forward to your responses :P

1. Yes. How long is a piece of string? put a decent (read: Bosch minimum) fuel pump in.

2. Yes. Good bang for buck. Untuned, I got an extra 50rwhp and more fun in the top end.

3. Wind it up until it pings. With the stock RB20 turbo my engine handled 14psi and made ~200rwhp. With the RB25 turbo is would only take 12psi (14psi and she pinged) but made ~250rwhp.

4. Plenty, but better off saving up and Nistuning it.

5. 180rwkw with a tune is easy, mine was mkaing 183ish (~250rwhp) without a tune. Stock injectors should be good for almost 200rwkw.

I still have the stock on mine and its going fine at 140rwkw but for peace of mind and at only a few hundred buckes go the 040.

#2 Yep do it, if you can get the 45v2 (the series 2 turbo)

#3 after putting my rb25 turbo on i have 13:1 (dangeresly lean) AFR untill 5000 rpm were it fuel dumps and the AFR become 11.5: (what you wont the whole time) also i gained 2 rwkw (rb20 turbo at 14psi) with the boost set at 5psi.

#4 go with nistune ist about $480 plus tune.

#5 im hopeing for 160-170 rwkw at 12psi.

No they won't, not without fuel pressure bumped up.

3 Possible reasons

1: Dyno readin fudged

2: You Don't have stock injectors(higflowed or a/m)

3: Fuel Pressure Bumped up

1: highly doubt it, reputable tuner here in Perth that I have used a fair bit and he wasn't trying to sell me anything

2: they were completely stock.

3: stock fpr.

Srsly guys, it is NOT a clear cut THIS IS WHEN YOU WILL MAX SOMETHING OUT.

Tell me, who has maxed a stock afm? and the circumstances?

RB20DET, stock afm, stock injectors, stock ecu, 12psi through RB25 turbo, 183rwkw - AFM NOT MAXED

I then went RB30DET, stock afm, stock injectors, stock ecu, 12psi through RB25 turbo, 183rwkw (a lot sooner) - AFM MAXED AT ~6000rpm

But anyway, a dyno is NOT a COMPARISON tool unless you are all using the SAME dyno on the SAME day with the SAME parameters.

If you are going to argue with me about 20hp, then you're a dickhead.

    • (it is a brand new ported mellings pump) I suspect the lack of pressure is due to the leak. It was *not* that low in other logs of oil pressure in the past. It wasn't that hot either, but not far off.
    • Would a Mellings oil pump be a viable option  From my time with a LS, and talking to tuners and LS specialists, the "weak" OEM oil pump is one of the first things they recommend to swap out if I was going to give the engine any high RPM I opted for a Mellings high volume, with the high pressure springs and I never had a issue with it Cost wise they are not expensive in the scheme of things
    • Just bought a 2002 Stagea 250tRS VR-X Four AERO VQ25DET and spent the last two weekends cleaning and detailing it.. still have to do the wheels and the engine bay but the rest of it came up nice. Imported 2011 to S.A. and I'm the third owner since it was imported. I met the guy who brought it over, he went to Japan and picked out the car, bought it and ordered the wheels. He also gave me a list of stuff he did to the car with receipts. Coil overs (I have the original springs), 3" exhaust from the dump pipe back no cat, Custom dump pipe,(I have the original exhaust), Plenum spacer, 18" custom Work XSA wheels (need restoring, I've made a start..), Shift kit put through the 5 speed tiptronic auto, TV and menus/screens changed to english, Australian DTV tuner installed in rear. I've just had four new discs and new pads as well as all the fluids including the brake fluid replaced. I have all the receipts for the last 15 years and the import papers in a nice folder. Car looks great, goes like hell but fuel economy is not a thing lol.. pics next..
    • I ended up in this rut again lol, and used a shit ton of filler. One thing I can't understand is, even after using a big long block and going in long X pattern strokes, I always end up at bare metal again with no filler, and my repair started at one end of the door and now I've chased my tail to almost the other end of the door. I was thinking of hitting the panel with a hammer where it might be a high spot and making everything low then filling it, I did this on a small section on my other door by mistake and I think I fixed it lol. Is this a bad idea? The other thing is with guidecoat, whether it's the powder or spray, after I sand all the guide coat off, it doesn't reveal anything for me in terms of high spots and low spots and makes it especially hard when it's bare metal (at least in powdered form), am I doing something wrong here, or likely a high spot I keep going over and creating valleys? Lastly, stupid question but, is it possible that after sanding if I only sand over the filler area where I know to be a dent that it's impossible for me to dig into that dent? Unless there are other problems which I missed.
