My gearbox seems really 'notchy' and especially when I shift to 4th it always crunches when I'm going fast. If I just put around it's fine but if I go from 80km - 100-110 in 3rd into forth it'll crunch. Even sometimes at lower speeds. The same happens if I'm downshifting to 4th at those speeds also, so I find myself going from 3rd to 5th which I hate.

What does this mean? The gearbox is on the way out? I have no idea.

edit: it's an r33gst-t s2 std box and clutch afaik.

The problem will be worn sinchro's more than likley not the actual synchro itself but the face of the shoulder that the sinchro seats on. It is common for the face to glaze up wich can be a reasonably simple fix as quite often the face can just be lapped with some lapping paste (the same as you would lap in valves in a cylinder head) and the problem will be fixed any decent gearbox shop should be able to do this for around the $600-800 dollar range.

4th gear is a common issue, there is a set of clips under the gear that snap and cause crunching there after.

Either way the gearbox will need to be rebuild by someone who really knows what their doing.

yea when this happens the beginning of the end is nigh for your gearbox, if u dont wanna fork out for a recondition straight away then at the very least change the oil to redline shockproof gear oil clicky. a lot of people are finding this stops the crunching. but wont do so forever as wear on your gearbox progresses

i would say its the synchro though, all gearboxes are the same, if it can change at lower rpm without crunching, and at high rpm it crunches, then tis the synchro and not the clips
