Tried to find anything on the forum in regards to fitting the front subframe from a R32GTR into a HR31 to convert to AWD once i fit an RB26DETT in it. Anyway know of any other forum questions like this? Does anyone know the dimensions between the chassis rails of the GTR in the engine bay?

I have never heard of this being done, doesn't mean it hasn't been thought about or done before.

Anything is possible, but it will take time and patients. Helps if you can fabricate things yourself.

Not an HR31 but this guy has the full GTR running gear in his S14: Link

Good luck with it and make sure that you create a build thread if you go ahead.

Someone did it to an oldschool RWD celica, basically had to cut and shut half the car to do it though.

No offence but this is a pretty retarded idea, you will spend a ridiculous amount of money to end up with an unregistrable hack of a car that will most likely have completely messed up suspension geometry and handle like ass. Why do you want to do it?

To be honest if you have to ask people on a forum how to go about it, you probably aren't the kind of person to be even attempting it.

the man asked a question on any other places to look to get ideas on the modification i dont see where he asked for ur opinions on the matter.

the only thing i can say is its alot of work but its doable start looking for the people who have done it to the vl's and id say ur somewhat on your way to figuring out whether its viable/in ur price range, or not

but as everyone said BUILD THREAD plz

Of course it is doable - however the time, cost and effort need to be really addressed as there is extensive modification just to get a GTR REAR end into a HR31...

Let alone the front end as the subframe sits lower and so on as my RB26 sits signifigantly lower to the ground than in a GTR.

I'd also question if the transmission tunnel can even allow for the driveshaft as my initial inclination would be a no, meaning floor cutting as well.

A good question here is this:

Will the added weight & customisation of the 4WD really make a HR31 that much faster than if you spend even just half that money on the HR31 IRS and reconfiguring it with weight advantages already posed.

Nismoid you think too much... weight, faster, money! You are jealous because it will be cooler than yours ;)

Just do it. Buy an R32 GTR (complete) take out the running gear and sell the shell to me for real cheap. Then a**hole everything into an empty HR31 shell.

Easy right?

Of course i think too much. I get paid to do so afterall.

After putting together a motor for 5 figures, then all the rest, you really have to "draw a line" at some point on a shell that is essentially worth nothing.

Going 4WD would be "that point" given the price of R32 GTR's these days :)

That's not to say I've not thought about 4WD myself, looked into that as well a few years back :)

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
