Ok, I've been a sony/nintendo boy since the 80s and currently have my trust PS3 and Wii.

but the other day I was out and about and spied the new X360 S model which has a few little upgraded including built in N wifi (can't believe it didn't ahve wifi to begin with), wireless controller of course, 250gb hard drive and a new case design.

Dicks smith at the moment have it for $449 with 4 games (all of which I would like, Halo3, Forza, rainbo 6 and pure football). I think that seems like quite good value.

on the other side they have now reduced the price of the old xbox 360 elite to $229!

so what if anything should I buy? is it worth $449 for the new model and some good games? or should I buy just the console for $390 at JB hifi? or should I got cheap and buy the old model?

any thoughts welcome. :(

Microsoft said the new xbox's will cost the same amount as the old ones. I havent been paying attention to their price but I could have sworn the old ones were slightly cheaper than that, like packages for 399. Keep an eye out cause there may be end of financial sales around now. For what it is though 449 is pretty good

The new model uses a new combined chip that runs cooler it's unlikely to have an RROD issue, or at least not one caused by heat. The new XBOX360 is obviously prone to marking with it's shiny case, it also proper eats discs if you are dumb enough to move the system while it's running.

ok, some interesting points. I've never been persuaded to get one till now but having bought a new house that has 2 living rooms I'd kind of like PS3 in one and the xbox in the other.

yeah if the package was about 10% cheaper at $399 or so I don't think I'd hesitate to get it but with the old model now half the price it's a bit tougher to choose.

That's got some pretty good info, I am considering trading up mostly for the bigger HDD, wireless and shinyness.

Only the original design 360's were cursed with the rrod. I purchased the original 360 on the first day of release in Australia. Had rrod twice on that xbox. They replaced it 2-3 years ago with a brand new xbox and i havent had rrod or any issue since.

Consoles are cheap just buy one. I have a ps3 and xbox. If it wasnt for sony exclusives and bluray i wouldnt own a ps3.

Where talking about micorsoft here. Those dudes have bulk money and dont mind spending it on the best people in the business.

Plus Kinect gets released in November. Motion control a league above the rest

My brother still has an original no HDMI etc version that has never had an error.

I bought an Xbox 360 Elite + Forza 3 and Halo 3 for $249.... but chucked it up on eBay because it doesn't interest me as much as I'd thought as I already have a PS3 and Wii and just mainly play on the PC anyways.

I bought the new xbox slim even though my old 360 (60GB version so no rrod).. mainly cause its got the bigger HDD and wireless..

I got the dick smith deal from another store.. its good if you will play them however.. Forza 3 and Halo are a "FREE" combo disc given to the store anyways so you can never trade them in as they arent for resale.. And i think Pure Football is shit IMO..

JB HiFi had a catalogue deal for $399 so if they still have them stocked at that price you can opt for that deal instead.. most stores will honour other stores deals as long as its in stock at that price..

I prefer the xbox menu over the ps3.. but prefer the ps3 for online play as i don't play online massively and you gotta pay for a gold account to play online.. so i buy the games that i wanna play online for ps3.. and others for xbox360..

As for Kinect (project natal).. when i first saw the E3 release for Project Natal.. i thought it was gonna be awesome.. But now getting close, I remember what a pain in the ass the Wii was like (its colecting dust LOL) and prefer the controller.. And also the games that are currently getting released look like they are for undder 12s..

Shinyness of the new xbox is annoying and seems very static.. dust loves it.. would personally prefer a matte one (scratches also)

well I went out and bought the dick smith deal but got it at JB. just picked the 4 games off the shelf and the xbox and bought a second controller with play through charge kit too.

haven't opened it yet but will get in some quality time tonight.

    • The question then becomes - was there any fluid coming from that hole before you did the rebuild ?    You may not have noticed, of course.   Depending on how you did the rebuild, the possibility has to be considered that somehow (cleaning ?)  fluid entered that hole and is now being 'forced'  out by small movements of the proportioning valve.   From the factory, there's actually a small rubber plug in that hole but with age and under-bonnet heat it's quite common for it to 'go missing'.  That rubber plug is designed to allow the venting process but also to prevent 'stuff' getting to the area (prevent corrosion, etc).   The plug is also not available as a spare part AFAIA. Personally I wouldn't race and buy a new master just yet but keep an eye on the area to see if the 'leak' continues.   If you're concerned about brake fluid damaging nearby paintwork, cable tie a piece of suitable absorbant material over the hole and remove/monitor occasionally.    Operation of the proportioning valve and the brake master itself won't be affected, but also keep an eye on brake fluid level, of course. In terms of a new master, the genuine part is getting expensive, unfortunately.  Amayama is showing AUD900+.   I was searching recently and there's an aftermarket part available from Japan made by 'Parts Assist': https://zenmarket.jp/en/yahoo.aspx?q=BNR32%2bBM50&p=1 Whether it's any good I have no idea, although in my experience Japanese aftermarket stuff is pretty good quality-wise.   The above site allows overseas buyers to purchase stuff more easily from Japan but there are fees and shipping costs, of course.   The original Japanese seller page is here: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p1197401228 Copper/Nickel is fine but I still prefer bundy tube and it's also cheaper.
