I reckon a couple of grand at least to cover a car like this, remember its not material its labour that is expensive...

I don't believe anyone has done single color vinyl in a quick release/rapid air (air release) style until now, our rep contacted me today at work and said there is a new vinyl they are looking at getting, used for wrapping and with the quick release backing, so she's going to get me a sample at some point.

Thanks for the reply Rush...

Is that new quick release material coloured is it???

Ive used chrome with a laminate over the top but wrapping a car with that would really be hard if not impossible to make it look good, the the two layers together dont stretch too well...

Anyway I think the any vinyl will outlast the print that is on it due to fading etc... thats why I always used vinyl cut coloured vinyls, the colour lasts for years and takes a beating and it doesnt mind being polished, whereas the matt wont like gritty car washes etc.. maybe Im getting too pedantic... Im sure no one looks that close except the one who owns it and the person it designed the vinyl yeah....

Keeps us updated on this for sure, you'll be stoked once its finished, I reckon definitely do a gloss black design over the top, even just something subtle to really give it that wow factor...

easy to wash, use something really soft, a wet/damp microfibre cloth usually does the job.

Dont expect change from 3k, infact, you can probably expect to pay a bit more for a wrap job, the labour is the killer im afraid, it just takes a lot of time and patience to get it right. You can count on being without your car for at least a week too.

Yes the new quick release is a coloured vinyl, i don't think its designed for printing on though, but i think the usual quick release (the stuff we've been using for ages) is fine for printing and wrapping with (FYI, Oracal vinyl, 3951 GRA)

I totally agree about trying to wrap with the chrome, i havent attempted it, and to be honest don't think i ever would, unless there is a chrome wrap specific vinyl that is as conformable as the stuff im using atm.

Lol im getting more and more pedantic about the finish on mine now too, so its not just you. yeah you're right about the printed stuff fading, should get at least a good year or 2 out of it, but if it lives in sunlight no doubt itll fade pretty quickly. I agree Solid colored vinyl does give a much nicer finish and obviously like you said, the color lasts a lot longer.

^^^^^^ yep, looks just fine.

Q. How will you 'touch up' stone chips?

to be honest, don't think its really a possibility, i could always run around with a black texta in the car...

not

yeah i dont think there is a way to do so, i could always cut a little piece out and stick it over the chip, but its not a very neat way to go, maybe replace the whole panel :(

will just have to drive further back from the car infront lol

I dont think you will have that much problem with stone chips really, you could always do gloss black lip acccent on the front bar so you have two layers there or a even just a clear gloss layer, you know that paint protection film...

Have you done the wing mirrors yet? Im keen to hear how you got on with them as they are really round it will really test the stretching application technique...

Done

Ill take a closer up pic for ya's shortly

well done, I reckon your've installed a fair bit of vinyl in your time by the looks of it....

Thanks dude,

its funny you say that though because i actually havent, but i've spent most nights the last few weeks trying to be as meticulous as possible, im determined to give it a good finish, and hopefully a lasting one.

If i haven't spat the dummy after completing my car, i might do it more regularly... :D

    • Started sifting thru my brakes to decide which ones I will run on Clem   Made me think I should just put them all on Silver...for when brake fade just isn't an option   Should be able to bump rotor up from 343x32 to 348x36 off Supra. Not sure if the Supra annulus is right for the Alcons or APs but trying g to find a used Supra\M4 rotor to test fit The Alcons seem to gain 1-2mm clearance which all helps
    • So car is getting a few mods to the cage and some jacking points welded in Meantime Ol Silver gets a new gearbox and shiny clutch.  Old Box is being set aside for Clem
    • Probably speedometer itself if the odometer is ticking. If the needle is stuck from a bit of grease or something that can cause it to stay at 0. Or a cracked solder joint in the speedometer can do it too.
    • Thanks Fella’s   to take this off topic and to elaborate a bit more. I have an rb25/30 going into a r32 GTST.. expected to make around 600-700hp. Would you?   A) R34 GTT box   B) CD00#?  I’ve seen a few posts about the CD swap and sounds fairly involved with making it fit etc but if it’s worth the work then I’ll go that way
    • Lower at the hubs. Funny I forgot to mention that part. Do this pull here I turned the camera off too soon but the graph shows a drop at the top and that was because the pipe from the turbo blew off. The tuner said we could’ve made possibly another 15 whp. He also added if I switched to ethanol we could up the boost some more as well. I was comfortable capping it at the most of 20 pounds. Turns out the turbo pipe just needed a new worm clamp. Got home replaced that then did a third gear pull from 3k to 7200 rpm and the power was great to the top. I just got an ecu mounting bracket from IEE that I need to try and get everything to fit well. It’s a PITA to get the harness and ecu fit properly behind that kick plate
