Hi guys,

I'm due to be off my green P's by the year's end. However, I wish to purchase and register a R34 GTR or a GTT under my name as a P plater, but not drive it till I'm on the fulls. I had a look at the VicRoads website, but I just see warnings about not driving high powered vehicles on P's. I'd like to purchase, change ownership and register it under my name - not through parents or sister.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Michael

no laws against owning, insuring or sitting in a turbo powered car on your p plates

the law, does however state you cannot drive a turbo powered car on your p plates

so its fine to purchase, get it insured, sit it in your driveway etc

Good man Paul! :D Thanks for clearing that up!

can you afford a GTR fresh of your p-plates?

EDIT: i dont mean to be rude, its just id be really really jealous if you could. DAAAYUUUUM

No it's okay. I can - been working in corporate since graduating 2008 :)

Hmm, I'm not going to rego or renew it until I'm off the P's :D I guess it's okay hehe. Thanks guys!

why bother buying one now when at the end of the year, the price is sure to come down a little more?

paying rego for an extra half a year seems slightly retarded to me, start looking for a car when its 2 weeks before you're off your p's.

Slightly retarded?

Full retarded!

"You went full retarded, and you should never go full retard man."

haha

but seriously OP, give it a wait for a bit and save some money... Unless you spy a car that you def want right now (i.e. that'll be sold to someone else), that's one of a kind, otherwise, leave it for a while.

yer i agree with that, unless there is a special one that has certain things done to it that you dont think will come up again... like a highly modified something special... i would just wait and buy one within even a month before u get off your P's...

if you wait, they may come down in price, you may find a better one over the next 6 months or so, or you may find a really really good deal...

TBH, I don't think it'd hurt to start looking at them now, because it might take 4 weeks or it might take 4 months to find something you want, so be patient and start looking now and like others have said, if you find something that is 100% right for you, then buy it.

You don't want to wait until the last 2 weeks then rush into buying one just because you are getting off your P's in 2 weeks.

for a second i thought this was gonna be another P plater asking if he could drive a turbo on his P's LOL

good work for doing the right thing XD

go for it for whatever you can afford but dont get carried away and start driving it everywhere!

LOL! Yeah - I'm not going to rego it until I can drive it :D Didn't think about that while I was posting! :)

Thanks for all your help and input guys! It's a great feeling knowing I'll be on fulls soon!

    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
