Caught person doing 140-160+ in 80 Zone who also went more than double the alcohol limit. The Drink driving ban is canceled out by the speeding ban. Impound, 1100 in fines and no driving for 12 months.

Lucky for him he didn't kill anyone. I'm glad I was doing laser duties when things were quiet and now have him off the road!

He wants to contest it saying his Honda Jazz doesn't go that fast.

I understand where your coming from, if the driver was

caught doing 160km/h on a country freeway late at night with no traffic to test out his new car it something then maybe abit of sympathy however over 0.05 aswell, it's clearly absolute wreckless

What sort of context would make this behaviour acceptable then? Theres no way anyone with half a brain could wake up at double the legal alcohol limit and seriously believe they are fine to drive, let alone do 60-80kph over the speed limit and try to worm out of it with pathetic excuses.

Short of him trying to rush someone in a life/death situation to hospital, theres not much he could do/say that would invoke any sympathy from me or hopefully the judge that takes his case.

Do you say this in a way to excuse the person? If so... Nothing really against you, but my general view on this: I know people who go out and have a big night, then they think that because they slept for 3 hours and now the sun is out they must be safe. I think you'd have to be pretty dumb to be innocenly ignorant of the obvious.

Also, I think that the risk of the effect of alchohol is far more severe and unpredictable than that of speeding. If alchohol is involved in any kind of way.... then grrrrr. Speeding on the other hand, still stupid, but slightly controllable in certain instances.

I did 140 in an 88 Corolla once... down a hill... so no impossible for the Jazz

yeah i'm trying to bash the point into some very thick skulls that we don't know the whole story therefore perhaps should not be so quick to rush to judgement. I'm not trying to mock Graeme, he seems like a pretty cool guy and dosen't afraid of anything.

It was about 4am and he was on his way home from being out at club in the city. His alcohol reading was on the increase. He was speeding simply because he wanted to get home faster.

I followed him at speed up to 160-165 which was going downhill then but then he started to slow down as approaching Stud Road, which he barely stopped and ended up almost in middle of intersection. I was amazed that he even slowed down for that.

To be "fair" I just called his speed at 140 which he was well over but I followed/tried to catch up to him at 150-170 for about 2-3 km.
