And you can always get the odd special order, but they are pretty rare from the factory.

Anyway topic has be sufficiently covered (with a lot of overkill), would make topics easier if I explained my reasonings better from the start instead of bringing up points about "exotics" and "metalic paint" without explaining why I brought them up.

But I guess other people generally don't know as much about the topic as others do, and connections have to be explained instead of just being left to be infered and interpreted by the responders.

Ferrari has been CC from about 360 onwards afaik. MB started around mid 2003 (it was a system MB wanted developed) and the paint codes will have a C in it somewhere. What's the code for your 360 Kujotk? i don't know if the same naming convention carries across all manu's.

Please let us all know which spray shop you work at so we can avoid taking it to where ever you learnt the trade.

i don't work for any spray shop, and if i did, how the hell could you judge the level of my work from a thread that doesn't' show any work what-so-ever?? :(

pretty much the high end car companies will have materials supplied by PPG. ie...

Notice there are quite a few metallic options in there, standard. Just because most the fezza's getting around are solid colours doesn't mean you couldn't get one like that standard. You could get two types of blue, a silver, a grey, a black and i think a metallic red/wine if you wanted.

i'm not disagreeing for disagreements sakes, i'm just trying to set things straight. It seems in my opinion, and further backed up by Sam, that you've become a little confused about car paint. We're just trying to tell you how it actually is. And on that...

Lambo's are painted in Germany in the same line as Audi R8's Audi A7 ect... The everyday Audi's are painted literrally on a seperate line in a separate factory in Germany. They may have the same colour codes but they are not the same, a colour code is just for the colour, it has nothing to do with the clear coat that is applied afterwards (clear coat is what makes the car).

I would say it's a leap of faith to claim a "clear coat makes a car", You always need a good base colour (and whether it be multiple layers to get a certain effect) but if the clear is clear, it's clear. It's how it's presented that makes the difference. I guess we just have some differences of opinions on some things.

Exotics are special cars, no doubt, and most people would give their left nut for one but when it comes to paint, there isn't anything special other than the hand painted options offered (like the Lambo pearl colours) and the reality is that most high end cars are covered by PPG materials and that's basically it.

any clear will chip - it's nonsensical to compare clears from different manu's based on how many chips they've got?? :):blink: that's what i mean, just random comments...

another thing to note, what makes a factory paint special is what happens AFTER it rolls out of the paint booth

Rolls Royce is one of the few manufacturers who painstakingly wet sand the clear coat to remove imperfections and orange peel

all good, if my info is wrong (which i'm starting to think quite a bit of the specific details are), then I take back the bits that are wrong.

Yeah the paint is done in Italy (@ Mirandola not Santagata factory, but it's close enough lol) I was getting mixed up with the rolls royce frames that are made in Germany lol, don't ask me why I got them confused, probably from that stupid "Megafactories" show on the discover channel).

Either way i'm not letting down that FEzas paints swirl much easier than most other cars, that i'm 100% sure on as it is my own experience, not info relying from others.

No more orange peel from me Sam, i'm done, and I learnt a few things from the last few pages which I didn't expect to, so now I can pass on the right info :D

you would have to be ULTRA dedicated to car maintenance if you wanted a complete flat finish,orange peel free finish - mucho time required to keep it looking mickey mouse

A few months ago there were 3 F40's in the country that I knew of, 2 of them have since been sold and gone to Europe.

A few months before that Austorient brought in 2, one came from the USA and the other from the UK. I think these were the ones that got sold to europe since.

Did your dad ever have a temporary rego on it? I saw one with the plates F40LM in Melbourne just after christmas.

^that one belong's to damien from FI's father - damien did an amazing detail on that, i saw the car in the flesh and the paint looked better than modern day factory ferrari's

my dad's used to belong to the owner of Bburago model cars, so it's a euro spec and has less than 1450km on it with original tyres etc

The US regs back in the 80s fk'd alot of cars, incl. the F40 with ugly bumper additions, and killed the engines with power robbing cats/exhaust bypass's - so the euro spec (of any classic with a bull or prancing horse) is what you want

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
