hey guys, had an accident last week.. got cut off on highway and hit barrier at 110km/h.. got out of it ok.. i think my air flow meter may be screwed.. it idles fine just once you come on boost it starts missing pretty bad.. almost like its actually running on 5 cylnders.. sounds like a wrx.. well a sick one! anyway i got home and let it idle for a few seconds and thought i heard a wierd sound.. so i take off the pod.. and put my ear up to the air flow meter..and sure enough.. i hear a little sound.. sounds like a bell!!!! WTF! like a little bell just ting.. ting.. etc.. is my turbo on its way out.. the car still felt pretty strong before the accident and i have never noticed this sound b4? any one know anything? any help would be great. by the way this is a rb20det.

cheers.

:upurs: nah, its funny because you drive down there pretty much any day and see all these cars that have like hit the side barrier, and its like 5 lanes and so open wide viewing angle the whole way to the GC and everything.. it makes the Monash and Ring roads in melbourne look like narrow roads so i'm not sure people manage it!

Thats some nice whoring.

I'd take it to a profesional for an opinion. Maybe pull the af meter off and havea look to see if anythings loose in there, check wiring hasn't been crushed in the inner guard if the car was an auto before the conversion.

Probably pull the front pipe off and have a look in the turb to see if you can see any chips in the blades and have a feel for play in the shaft. BB turbo should have very little shaft play.

Unless somethings fallen off the af meter then the turbo shouldn't have eaten anything though.

.. i was heading into brisbane, in the left lane and some **** head decide to take my lane.. he was going quick and there was a car ahead of him.. so he cut me off.. predator.. before you open your uselss mouth about shit you dont know nothing about go to your kitchen and get a glass of shut the hell up.. call me a fool for running into the barrier.. f**k you! bhdave, DJ_L3ThAL thanks for the replys.. ill have to pull the turbo off and check it out.

Just take the pipe from the compressed side off and look for "shiny bits" first. May save some work.

remember a turbo spins way quick so if it was interfering anywhere it would sound like a squeal

"interfering...squeal" sounds like gordo and DJ with their 14 yo :)

took everything off bar the turbo and there doesnt seem to be any signs of anything. the turbo wheel spins freely and there is no metal shavings.. there is very little play in the turbo as well.. hmmm.. but i guess when its spinning as fast as it would when i come on boost if there was a tiny bit of play it would get worse????

    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
    • Is this a brand new LSD? if so, have you followed any break/bed in procedure for it? Usually involves heaps of figure 8 patterns, a fluid flush.
    • It's TWO steering wheels actually. 😛 one for each hand They are wheels, and they steer!
