hi ppl,

my gearbox wont allow me to select any gears while the car is running, but im able to select gears with the car off

how it happened? well i gave it a bit from standing start (around 5000rpm) and was unable to select 2nd straight away, regretable moment but was curious to see how it went when launched, no noticeable noise at the time

i have rung gearbox shop and its $560 odd to do a clutch change should that be problem

i have done a slave cylinder bleed (yet to do it at master) and visually inspected the pedal box which appears fine (will remove on the weekend) and clutch progressively gets hard to pump (if thats a test for air leak at the booster)

from other posts, selector fork could also be the culprit (broken), perhaps clutch failure

will lack of oil cause something like this (i will check oil level in a few days)?

if anyone has had the same issue, pls post what it turned out to be

either way, it appears to be a gearbox out fix, now contemplating a backyard job or workshop job

btw currently have a single plate nismo clutch that was rebuilt by npc a few moons ago, gearbox was in good condition prior to moment of madness and did not crunch when changing

I had the push type clutch in my R32 1992, I have broken three gboxes and clutch related hardware too . I had a few clutch disengagement problems over the years due to, (not at the same time)

Broken clutch fork

Stuffed slave cylinder

broken clutch fork pivot point stud.

input shaft housing snout rubbing on os gikken pressure plate (snout needs to be machined if running twin, tripple plate os clutches).

with the gearbox in its present condition, would i have damaged the gearbox or its more a case of replacing a stuffed clutch/part and wacking it back in?

Unlikely to have damaged the box mate. If it's a slave cylinder there's no need to remove the box. Get her up in the air and take a look :D

fingers crossed its something as simple as stuffed slave or even clutch, just as long as gearbox didnt cop it.. will report as soon as i have looked at the master/slave cylinders properly

is it possible to rule out pivot ball / clutch fork from external inspection???

Clutch fork yes, pivot ball no, well, not always. First step is to see if the slave is moving the fork when someone depresses the clutch.

ok bled the slave and master again, can definately see the slave moving the piston, car was still on the road so couldnt see the fork portion

have plans to put it up on stands to get a better look over the weekend

anyone know how high i will need the car off the ground to be able to drop the box and clear underneath the car??

Put it in gear clutch in then start it and see what happens

car moves forward slightly when started in gear, no difference if i press the clutch or not during this time

pretty much exhausted my options testing for other things, was planning on taking the gb out at home but now will be done at a workshop, looking for a replacement clutch now

    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
