Hey guys,

the right front Tein superstreet coilover on my car is quite noisy, when going up or down a slight incline or even turning slowly will make loud groaning/ knocking sounds.

The strange thing is that the probably under a year old (I didn't fit they were fitted by the previous owner) - i've had a tyre place near my house have a look, they checked all bearings, bushes, lubed everything up and couldn't find a cause - they said it's most likely the shock itself.

Who should i take it to to get the coilover fixed? any idea on what sort of cost i'm looking at?

Cheers,

Steve

Depends what is wrong with it. WA Suspension can have it sent back to Fulcrum Suspension (Suppliers of TEIN in OZ) if it requires rebuilding, but most likely it's just loose.

cheers mate,

what could actually be "loose" inside the shock?

Pretty sure they have 2 year warranty if the previous owner bought them brand new?

I don't have any reciepts but the car was imported stock standard from autoworx and every aftermarket part was installed brand new (coilovers, exhuast, rims, fmic etc etc)

i guess theres no way i can prove how old they are - il book it into wa suspensions and see what they say

welcome to Tein suspension, get them out, fix the broken 1 and sell them. I would recommend something like HSD.

has a got a pillow ball top mount? if so, then the spring is not seated correctly so u get a grinding, knocking sound on slow turns or turn + going through bumps.

take it to a good suspension store and get it adjusted correctly so there's no rubbing

take it to wheels world, 4 Carbon Ct, Osborne Park

had the same thing on my bmw before and they managed to get it installed correctly. they are pricey but u get good workmanship

thats EXACTLY what it does - im not to sure if its pillow ball top mount though? its Tein Super Street Coilovers - which i have read come in both versions - what does the pillow ball top mount look like?

from memory the tein super street has the pillowball and camber plates. if incorrectly adjusted or installed, the spring doesn't rotate when u turn the steering causing that knocking sound.

get it re-installed and see how u go.

Don't go to a suspension shop telling them the worst. some places wont be able to tell the difference and will just do an expensive rebuild on a perfectly good shock.

ROFL... yes because HSD is alot better quality then tein :D

Teins are not made in Japan anymore if i'm not wrong.

A Jap mechanic also told me that quite a bit of people in the circuit scene in Japan avoid teins now. :mrt:

Very high chance that it's how the spring is seating. Bring it down a workshop who knows what they're doing to get it checked out.

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
