Hey

Just on the look out for an R33 GTR, was just wondering, can you tell a Series I apart from a series II just by looking at photos, I have no idea if there even is an external difference. I know that stuff like grills and that kind of thing get changed alot to the later series in commodores, but is there something that is hard to change that will give it away in an R33 GTR. I have found that in 96, series II were produced, but does that mean from the begining of 96? If some one could help me with this question, I would be very thankful. Also, Is there a website that someone can point me to that will compare an R33 GTR series I to a series II.

Thankyou

electrically they are differnet I can tell you that much. in most of the S2 ones I have worked on they had smart entrance fitted. the S1 did not. dash cluster and main panel differ - there are otehrs but htose ar the ones I can name off from memory.

Chris what does the smart entrance thing actually do? I happen to have mine right in front of me and was googling to see if it did anything. I know it's got the buzzer in it, but have no idea what else it's "supposed" to do.

smart entrance controls the inside lights, door locks and chimes. in earlier cars they were separate modules.

FYI S3 is different again.

OK, now you just showing off Chris !!

I think series 2 should also have passenger side air bag where as S1 it was a very are option

and if you have the option try to buy a S3 one with the Projector head lights, for some reason, they look lot nicer..!!!

Thanks Chris. I'd still love to find a proper skyline drivers side actuator and whatever else I need to make the central locking do both doors. Was thinking this smart entrance was part of that. Not that my keyless entry system doesn't work, but turning the key in the drivers side door is very hard to do. I still think the actuator is in the wrong place :P

Hi Chris, Seeing as you are a guru with all things electrical in Skylines can you tell me how the door locking feature should work when operated with the doors closed in a GTR33 Series1,at the moment if I lock both doors from the inside whilst in the car you can still open the drivers side door from the outside,I assume something was not connected properly when the compliancing was done,I am fairly sure the locking knob on the drivers door does not close when the lock is electrically activated however central locking works properly locking both doors when the key activator is used when outside the car.Cheers GREYPEARL.

Den, do a search mate, there's a lot of info on this in the archives. There are few differences between S1 and S2, the bigger differences came in S3 such as red colour interior instead of blue, upgraded ABS xenon headlights, rear fog light, additional ducts in the front bumper and a deeper chin spoiler

    • When you say your cams are 272/262 is that 272in and 262ex?
    • We're arguing semantics. I am saying 45 accel and a 55 deccel ramp are "2 ways". Even a 45 degree ramp and an 89 degree ramp is "2 ways", because it is literally... two ways. The cusco 55/30 ramp is a 2 way. It's two ways. I get it though - in normal nomenclature a "2 way" would be 45/45 or 55/55 or 60/60 i.e the same locking in both directions. And something like 45/65 would be considered "1.5 way". I would then say if we're getting into the nitty gritty then every locking diff is a "2 way" diff and we should not speak in 1.5, or 2 ways but ramp angles instead. Which ofc if one of those ramp angles is 90deg, that side is not doing any locking. :p So Nismo don't obviously sell 3 things. The fact of the matter that they only sell two items really goes to show that there's a 2 way and a "1,5 way" which is really a 1 way. I believe the actual lockup for the 'adjustability' of the GT pro is really just setting preload for when the ramps actually start locking up. It's not changing how much 'wayness' there is. It is (somehow) horribly explained. People just buy whatever diff and go "locks up good bruh" and that's what ends up on socials forever.
    • No, you're wrong, and you've always been wrong about this. The Nismo has 2 sets of openings. One is a real 2-way, and the other is a 1-way. There is no 1.5-way possible with the ramps that they offer. A real 1.5-way does exist. That Cusco stuff I posted is a prime example. If the forward drive ramps are, say 55°, and the overrun ramps are, say, 30°, then you will get about half as much LSD effect on overrun than you do on drive. It is real, it realy works. OK, you're slightly right. The Nismo has 55° and 45° ramps on the 2-way, so it does offer less LSD effect on overrun. But, I think that just means that they've (probably) sensibly established that you do not want actually equal LSD effect on overrun. You just want "quite a lot, but not quite as much as the drive LSD effect".
    • Just wanted to unearth this and post my baby with the new front ❤️😝 Took her to my wedding rehearsal today. Next up is getting wide skirts (after wedding)
