you also have to consider there taxes on owning a car with a certain amount of kms or the year of it. i read it somewhere along the lines awhile ago hence the owners in japan rarely drive there cars. besides their country is small.

kms winding back is very common also but if you buy a 03-10 car i dont think you'll have to worry as much. its a roll of the dice i guess.

I dont see the need for them to wind back the kms,

from what i read and hear from peoples first hand experiences:

(1)Japanese drive their cars just as much as us, none of this they only drive between 5-7,000kms a year crap

(2)They are probably the most anal people regarding cars, take pride etc making sure its always at its best

(3)Servicing is done all the time on time etc etc

Thats gives me confidence alone in buying their cars, naturally there are exceptions and variations but yea my 2 cents.

So that means you cannot have the real kms on imports? :D:down:

Well my 03 V35's odo for some strange reasons hasn't been wound back. Got 70ks when I bought it in May. I know its genuine because I have the import papers and there's a section on it where the kms are recorded when the car's registration is renewed in Japan.

2003 - 0 km

2005 - ~20000 km

2007 - ~50000 km

2010 - ~70000 km (when I bought it)

So the kms looked alright. So not all imports have tamperred odo. :P

That is the reason why some dealers wind the meter back, so that they can sell the car at a good price.

Yea i get that part of the equation,

but youd understand just like any car enthusiast in the end its just a number. As long as the car is serviced and maintained at or above manufacturers standards,

treated with respect and driven spiritedly every now and again lol thats what really matters.

Mine came in at just under 8K km's so for a two and half year old vehicle its almost unbeleviable but i have the service history and all squares up ok. I would be dissapointed if it was wound back and from what i have been told, in order to wind back km's on a digital dash you need to remove it and replace with a new one, has anyone else heard of this before?

That's right. KMs don't really matter much on imports.

Bought my 03 Coupe with 50K on the clock and just found out yesterday for sure that the KMs have been wound back....found a sticker with 61,XXX written for when the cabin filter was changed.

More obvious ways to tell if the KMs are suss are excessive wear on the seats and steering wheel for a really low mileage car.

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
