hey all, just trying to wonder what the awd system of the stage is based on? (s2) so r33 setup

is it a mechanical diff or electrical diff?

torsen, viscose etc setup???

from what i know and have been told, it stays in rwd until it feels that the rear is exceeding its torque output and to stop it from slipping it will engage the front.

or is it just clutch driven??? clutch is disengaged until it feels slippage etc and then presses clutch together to connect the front wheels??

at the rear of the gearbox is a 4 or 5 row chain that wraps around the exit shaft

the chain runs into the transfer box where it meets the front drive shaft

between the shaft and the chain is a series of clutch packs which are designed to slip al little (a bit like an auto box) when some power is needed up front, the pump adds pressure to the clutch packs and some of the torque/power is transfered to the front wheels

the max power to the rear is 100% and when the clutch packs are fully engaged the torque split is 50:50

Thanks for posting this info up. I was also wondering how the drive system works.

Dunno what you'd have to be doing to get 100% driveto the front wheels or 50:50 as you also called it. Even "popping" the clutch at 4000rpm while rolling in 1st gear with my brass button exeedy clutch makes the gauge for the front drive move a lil bit.

I ran it through Google as well (on between load 200ton trucks at work) and found some great info on it on Wikipedia. There was even a video on it! I will be having an indepth look as soon as I get home.

Its a bloody awesome drivetrain. The Japanese are bloody Clever!

Max power while the system is operating normally is 95% to the rear. This is why you can't just pull the fuse to go in to 2WD mode, there is a procedure and it works, 100% RWD.

The system is pretty much based on the R33 GTS4 system, runs 5% preload to the front and splits more torque as it feels it's needed.

Another truck driver or a loader driver at a mine? I drive container trucks - mere 45 tonne max!

Yup. I work in a coal mine. I operate the smallest Digger there which weighs 300ton. Most of the others are 600tonners and the largest 2 are 1200tonners... Those babys can dump 100tons of dirt on a truck in one scoop! :D

anyone got the link to that rwd procedure (the one that you can leave the front driveshaft in)

I have posted it up a number of times...

But here goes again..

Locate the "air bleed" wire behind the drivers kick panel, it's a plug with a single wire either side (usually green socket, white plug).

Disconnect it.

Start car. As key comes back to the ON position, within 10 seconds, depress brake pedal 5 times, 4WD light will start flashing to indicate you are in 2WD mode.

To go back to 4WD mode, turn car off, reconnect plug and off you go.

I have hooked mine to a switch in the centre console.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.

    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
