Thats the point....I still say 23.1 in my car isnt that quick. Its two seconds off where it should be. If that 23.1 was a 21.1 then I would happy where the gun tag...but as is that times sells the car short!

I'd be happy with a 23.1 at Sandown. Still a clear sec quicker than me. Not sure where my time has gone on that track?

I carry enough speed at turn 6 kink (almost slide through there) and brake as late as possible at nearly every corner...

I think it's just drive out of the corners there that I struggle with and bouncing ripple strips may not be the best approach.

If you think that a 23.1 sells it short i'm looking forward to what comes next with your car. :) You've been right about almost everything that a rwd skyline (non-Big Red haha) is capable of on semi's so a 21 isn't out of the question.

Ok in car vids are up....

First is my new PB lap....the fist pump at the start finish line at the start of the lap was when I saw a high 47 flash up on my previous lap :)

and this is a collection of some overtaking. First part is me trying to overtake a big single turbo R34 down the straight only to be passed like I was standing still by a 6.6ltr V8 powered 260Z :) ....middle part is me catching and passing a GT3 cup car and last part is an ex(?)-V8 supercar - we came out of the last corner side by side only for him to pull away down the straight using ubber killerwasps. Two corners later his lead disppeared thanks to corner speed and I was able to overtake.

Enjoy :D

Well done Ant, lookiing at those vids I can see why your doing the times you are doing, very smooth and the car looks very stable in the high speed corners, noticed your holding flat through turn 3 and hayshed, good stuff....

Not far from a 1:46 now... Keep up the good work.....

I have some vids of me doing a 1:46, let me know if you want to compare the two...

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'd say that the vids make my driving look smoother than it felt in a few places! My biggest issues on the day were pulling the car up for Honda as I had the ABS kick in a few times and balancing the power around the 2nd last corner.

Given my times on the day I'd say that the car is capable of a high 46 on a perfect lap. Even with the stocky suspension I have been taking turn 3 flat, but since the suspn upgrades the car has felt stable enough to take hayshed flat too. This stability allowed me to make gains (by seat of the pants feel anyway!) around most of the corners but in particular I'd say Southern loop and lukie heights were by the biggest margins.

I would love a copy of your 46 lap Jack as it would interesting to compare, despite our firepower differences ;) ....is it available on youtube?

Hey ant, here you go:

Right click 'save as'.

Minimize and play them together with your YouTube vid.

I did my best to play them together from the start/finish line, but it's a bit hard as you cannot press play simultaneously.

Enjoy!

    • They're all horrible. X-Trails have had a nasty sounding 4cyl since forever, no matter what engine family it came from. The CVTs only made that worse. Then the whole Renault thing only made every Nissan that was contaminated by them even worse again. The only fun I've had in a X-Trail was having it blown sideways across a frozen Minnesota highway at 90 mph trying to make it to the airport to get out of the frozen hellhole of Hoth. Nearly died. Was great fun.
    • Alrighty, I'll have to grab a couple pics and type out something soon in another post. I haven't driven a modern X no, this would be the first one really. Yeah the rental boxes are always cheap as chips right? So I'd doubt that anyone was handing out GTs to go and abuse. But I s'pose I could be wrong for sure. New cars these days though? Pretty unimpressed with what I see now; 20 years and all that, like you said. It just kind of worked out to have these two cars now. I'm pretty pleased with that, don't need much else. I'm sure you lads are right about the temps and for sure, you wouldn't have much time to drive 'em down there if you all were like me. I do hate sweating all over the seats though😆
    • Let large companies that are making money off selling kits do the preliminary engineering for you. If they all do -10, then that is all you'll ever need.
    • Hopefully it ends up being something manageable, like a hone, rather than a full bore—it would be a huge relief if it’s not as bad as it looks. Hang in there; these setbacks are annoying, but it sounds like you’re handling it as smartly as possible.
    • At the end of the day, it’s all about understanding the odds and being comfortable with the potential cost, whether it’s horsepower on a build or chips on a roulette table. And I have to say, the Laine example made me laugh—some people really do embrace that carefree, “roll and see” attitude!
