I once used one of these to compare my current plan to others... it was maybe $30 less for the year on someone else plan but had to be locked in and change everything around... f that... i rekon if its less then $100 you save for changing over its not worth it.

gl with it

One other thing to note is who owns the company you go with.

There are a few with a large percentage owned overseas. Victoria electricity is about half owned by an NZ company, not sure about others - so your money leaves oz for the sake of a few bucks.

Im with Vic Elec - although they merged into a larger company or something.

10% discount for early bill payment too ontop of good rates

Saves me a good $100-$150 over a year, if not more. Not quite a "few bucks" - could be as much as $200-$250 over a year with reduced rate also

Competition = win.

Yes must agree there are some good deals to be had - I was on Vic Elec for a while was getting 7% or something for on time.

I have been on the 100% green for a little while now but you don't get any of the good offers on it - they all seem pretty close price wise. Gotta help offset my fossil fuel burning habits somehow!

This bit on switchwise is good for getting a rundown of the companies and any overseas interests

Vic Elec / Lumo is 100% NZ it seems

TruEnergy is owned by China Light and Power after a quick browse.

There isnt much diference when it is a straight swap offered by people on the phone of door to door knockers... unless u seek a proper deal, it is not worth it cos some of these people transfer you wrong from one company and you end up getting youre power disconnected in the process untill u ring them back and get someone to reconnect it for u which can take up to 4 hours... how do i know? i work for the transmission and east distribution asset owners, part of my training was taking EMERGENCY FAULT calls and there are 12589712409 people asking about billing, reconnections and etc... we arnt retailers but most dont know the difference and call us anyways. That y i say, if they come to you, forget it cos they just want commission and slap you with there plan... But if you go to them you might win...

im with AGL and they are hopeless, billing is horrible

you might be in contract with origin, if you arent then all is good

Well luckily i am not locked into a contract with Origin. Apparently, from what i heard, origin is the most expensive out of all but provides the best service. I live in an apartment, so i doubt i will need any service from them.

I was looking through Vic Elec as well. Do you get the $100-$150 savings every month or at the end of the year only? I want to look at the charges per kWh. Some companies have Peak and Off Peak charges some don't.

Origin charges me by the first 1020kWh at 17.7cents then subsequent kWh at 18.99cents before GST. A bit steep i reckon. Service charges is fixed at $57 per quarter. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment in the city and i recently just paid $418 from june to sept. :D

Anyone care to share their charges? :P

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
