Hi again,

I know this is a bit of a amateur-hour question, but can someone give me guidance on where to put the jack-stands when lifting the front of the car, assuming the jack will be lifting from the cross member?

On the S15 I could jack and stand from the sills without any problem, but either the GTR is just plain heavier or the sills are softer - every time I touch them with a jack they sound like they are made of brie cheese.

Cheers,

Andrew

jack under the fake frame rails (nearly even with the front of the door jamb )but behind the split or it will crush in slowly

or you can jack up the car one side at a time and put them under the crossmembers, my car is so stiff I can floor jack up 1 side and 3 wheels come off the ground..lol oddest thing to see ever... but not real safe to be under..lol

my GTR will have 3 wheels off the ground, its because i got Tein SS in there, with the stock suspension the wheels would still touch the ground.

u used to jack the car from the gearbox mount near the drivers side door then go around to the front and do the front from the subframe.

but i managed to now get the jack under the front spoiler and jack from the subframe on one side of the front, this makes it a little easier doing it this way.

i always try and use solid points like the subframe.

i onced used one of those scissor jacks and had to lift is as far as it would go to get a brick under the car to support it, just as it was just about as high as it would go the scisor jack gave way and bent and the car fell back into me and pushed me. lucky i didnt have my knees under the car or anything like that, it just pushed me away.

lesson learnt, dont use scissor jacks!

i'm gonna try and get a mate to make up some wooden ramps to get the car up maybe 90mm so it will give some more room when doing oil changes, or when i need to get under there.

a low profile jack would be awesome!

thanks for the help guys.

I jacked it yesterday using the crossmember as the jackpoint and stands under the camber bushes. not sure they are mean to take any load (ie I'm pretty sure they're not!) but unless the jack fails there is minimal load on them anyway.

happy car:

    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
    • I also used NP   That’s were it’s seems to be the best place to fit it? All schematic shows also that it’s should be referenced from the turbo housing. But idk, I do see high hp cars without any connection or anything to their turbos, so I really don’t know how they connect their things
    • I do have loctite 243 and 246 and a few more models. I could drill it now in place and make new threads for m12 and order an4 - m12 coupling and fit that to the turbo. Run a braided hose to the EBC which I could get a an4 to 1/8npt
    • So M12 and sealant should be fine?    NPT ” because that’s what I had and what I could get atm.
    • Wouldn’t touch par if they gave it to me. You need to ask how much power you’re looking to make and then add about 50% to it because that’s what you’ll end up making  The factory box says no more at about 350kw or so, the upgraded synchro boxes won’t handle much over 500kw for long and at that point you’re looking at an auto or dog engagement manual,  once you’ve gone dog engagement you may as well go sequential, they cost a little bit more but it’s worth it  also while you’re at it you should upgrade the transfer case with 10 friction plates
