mine has the conversion loom

its about $45 and probably worth it, i can unplug and remove the turbo timer and only have to cut 2 wires

Yeah mine does to i think, theres a bit of a story behind all this crap. I got an alarm fitted to my car that was supposed to have a turbo timer function built into the alarm so when i got it fitted i asked the auto elec to pull out the turbo timer. Well the alarm turbo timer has never worked and the alarm has turned out to be a big dud with lots of issues. Anyway when he pulled it out i dont now what hes done with the wiring, wether hes just cut it out or unlugged it. Ive no idea where the wires go and i dont want to take it back to him cause i found out when i pulled the dash apart today that the alarm was dodjily installed which is probably the reason why it doesnt work the way it should.

See in the first pic (left one), left hand side of the picture, there are the two plugs, one male and one female, joined together with short bits of white green blue and red wire, also has that black sheathed bit coming out of it. That's the turbo timers ignition harness.

To install it, pull the dash apart so you can see the key barrel wiring, you will see a plug where the stagea's wiring loom plugs into the key barrel. It will look the same as one of the plugs on the turbo timer ignition harness, unplug it and put the turbo timer harness in-between the stagea's loom and key barrel.

I'd also say one of those black wires if not both will be a ground, so you'll have to ground it/them to the chasis somewhere. You'll have to check that on a wiring diagram though.

Id say you are right about the black wires being earth/ground wires cause they are the only wires black wires coming out of the unit itself and at the first plug junction it goes from one black wire on the unit side to 2 black wires. And everything electrical has to have earth.

I had a funny feeling that was an ignition harness but had no idea where it went, thanks

Im still not sure about a few other wires though, on the harness theres a white wire with a plug on the end of it. Ive put a yellow circle around it in the pic so you know which one im talking about.

Also in the harness there is two wires that have been spliced into the red wire shown in pic with orange circle and there one wire spliced into the blue wire shown with the blue circle.

Theres also a plug that comes out of the unit shown in the red circle which has 3 wires of white, orange, and a pinky/purple colour.

Thanks

Stuart

I have a harness that looks identical to that one on my car (was on it when it came over from japan) I've since cut it up and spliced my apexi pen timer into it. That white wire circled in red, I have it too, i tested it and it seamed to be a cranking signal, don't know what for but it isn't needed for the turbo timer.

The white wire circled in blue, looks like it's spliced into the accessory wire (from memory blue is the accessory on wire, green is ignition on) maybe it was for a aftermarket cd player.

The red wire will be a constant 12v positive, so the wires spliced into it circled in orange will be the same, again perhaps for an aftermarket cd player, etc

I'm not familiar with this turbo timer so I don't know what the plug circled in red is for sorry.

Isnt there supposed to be a wire that goes to your handbrake? cause when i had it installed as soon as the handbrake was depressed the cut would turn off. Or is that in the harness?

I guess ill just plug it in and wire those to ground earth wires and see how i go.

aahh, thats right. i forgot about the handbrake wire. probably because i never use it, i've always just grounded it out with the timers ground wire so it thinks the handbrake is on.

another thing you'll have to check is if your alarm will work with the turbo timer. if not when you arm the alarm it will immobilise the engine making the turbo timer kinda pointless (im assuming its an alarm/immobiliser). my alarm had a turbo timer function i had to enable so the alarm knew to wait for the engine to be shut off before immobilising.

All sorted mate just pluged it it and away it worked, also found that other 3 pin plug under the dash and pluged that in to. it had the purple wire going to the hand brake. I cant believe that the dickheads that pulled it out were going to charge my $100 to re-install it. It was like a 5 min job.

And yes my alarm has a turbo timer function in it. Im taking my car into a alarm joint today to try and get it sorted out.

    • oh they were with that motor, you need to remove the engine to change the spark plugs (don't have to, but it does make it easier)
    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
