haha yeah. Was just curious thats all. Just gonna slap some fatter rims and some good tyres on it so she gets getter traction it the wet. Which tassie tends to be most of the time, plus then she can have a little bling on the car and that'll keep her happy. So does any one know how fat we will fit? It has standard 15X6 on it i think. Don't want to go any bigger then 17 cause any bigger will be rediculus. And was hoping to fit 7 and a half inches fat, maybe 8. Theres a lot of wet hills where we are. Still want to go full lock without rubbing and to be able to turn whilst driving of course. Does any one know what i can fit or know where to find out? Cheers.

friend of mine had one with the above mods was keeping up with non sti wrxs/factory gtst with ease, pity never dyno'd or put on the strip before he sold it.

lol define "keeping up". surely you mean when they gradually go up through the gears at 1/8 throttle

going fat tyres will make the car accelerate slower and use more fuel as you will have more rolling resistance. only time it will help is when you dump the clutch while bashing it against the limiter.

as for keeping up with wrx's, etc, +1 with everyone else on pissing themselves laughing. the engines may be rated at 141kw or whatever they are (that's for the sportivo version, the base versions don't have that much, they only have 100kw), but the actual torque output is still low. you will find that on a drag strip they aren't much faster than a SSS pulsar due to the fact that the sportivo engine is lacking in the lower part of the rev range. a non sportivo with the 1zz-fe will be slower than a SSS and run the 1/4 mile probably in low 16's. my sister has a 2006 corolla and while they go alright, it is much slower than the missus SSS.

as for mods, as people have said, if you are worried about fuel economy, then don't do anything drastic. a set of 16 or 17" wheels with reasonably skinny tyres (so something like 195's or 205's to try to keep them as close to the stock width as possible) to make it look better is about all.

about the 'self learning' ecu. the amount it learns is very minimal. it more learns driving habbits and tweaks a few things from there.

mate just leave the car alone. nothing you spend good money on will make it perform much better. if it is your mrs daily driver just leave it be. spend ya hard earned money on your skyline, leave the little toyota alone.

+1. they are the best econobox ever. I have a wagon and its used for daily travel with 600+ km/tank.

whilst some will say mod the crap out of it. personally thats what a nissan is for, if you mod both cars then you will have two expenses and one less reliable car.

My Sis law got 2004 Sportivo with 140KW engine in it, it is really nice Car to drive everyday. it's my Car usually when the "SKyline is getting fixed stuff done or waiting for a new one to arrive from japan" time..

Had a stock R33 GTST and around 4 years ago and Yes.. i had the biggest laugh when i read "keeping up"... the guy working next to me was looking at me laughing. [was meant to be looking at some work emails]

However, i can say that [same engine] in a Lotus exige and next to Any skyline bar the R35, I am not going to be putting any bets who will win..... but that whole different story

yeah not modding it in any way. I'm not gonna buy new rims just to get bigger diameter rims. Just wanna go a bit fatter for better traction in the wet. However the tyres on it are getting close to the end of there life. So i figured we might as well get fatter ones at the same time. Want to keep the overall diameter of the tyres the same as not to effect the speedo.

fatter tyres will often give you less traction in the wet as it takes longer for the water to be pumped out through the grooves in the tyre. tyre compound and tread pattern will make a bigger difference to traction in the wet. a good compound with a decent tread pattern will give you good traction in the wet.

ah, there we go. That is why i ask these kinda questions on here before going into the tyre shop where the barstards will tell you anything. Now then, can any one recommend a brand of tyre to get then? I hear kumho is good in the wet? I have pirelli p6's on my 31 and they are pretty good. I may however need to get fatter rims for the skyline when i get back depending how much power it has. So i could always chuck the pirreli's on the corolla. I think the rims on the skyline are the same offset and everything. Not sure. There not standard rims.

Well lets be honest, a second difference between 2 cars over a 0-100km/h run only equates to a carlength or two, so it's easy to feel like you're keeping up with something really quick. It's the >100km/h acceleration that shows the difference in power :).

Geez everyone has done their time cruising/street racing as a kid (late teens sorta thing) and really if u "line" a car up at the lights you really "assume" they are giving it 100% and yea maybe if it was a show room spec 2010 wrx or fresh rebuilt Gts-t rb20det then corolla probably would have difficulty "keeping up".

Just to clarify I do own a r32 with a modded s1 rb25det, and hell no I would say the rolla would even have a chance on anything. But just denying the comment totally being in a skyline forum sounds absolutely childish.

Some members just need to be more open minded and start accepting yes, some nanna wagons will perform just as well as your 22 yr old factory worn out wat-used-to-be a performance machine!

No wonder I get all these kids waving / smiling as they pass me away from lights when I drive the Rex. I didn't realise I'd just inadvertantly beaten / been beaten by them in a street drag race in their modified buzzbox. I wonder how many "kill stories" I've featured in on Lancer / Corolla / Excel / Daihatsu forums over the years then :verymad:

Newsflash - just because you're racing doesn't mean your "opponent" is, regardless what you assume.

If people want to race me, then I'm more than happy to oblige at Willowbank Autocross track or at Lakeside. Let them beat me with proper timing and official recording of times then I'll acknowledge their buzzbox is faster than my buzzbox. Anything else is just a wank

I second that. I get a quiet laugh when people thrash the shit out of their little buzz boxes and i just plod along casually. The p platers are the worst for doing it. Especially ya stereotipical bogans in there comodores.

I was cruising along in liverpool once in my 34 gtt, didn't notice that I'd just pulled up next to an sv6 ute at the lights. I took off a little quickly, just enjoying the car, 3/4 throttle changing at 4k rpm.

I noticed a lout noise next to me, it was the dousche in the sv6 unintentionally pulling a 30 degree drift whilst bouncing off the rev limiter.

I stamped on the breaks and has he caught it he was propelled into my lane, where I would have been if I hadn't hit the breaks.

Moral of the story: I had no idea we were "dragin", and he could have killed me or my gf or some other poor bastard when he lost control.

Oh yeah, I also let a golf gti and a subi rx (with wrx badges o_O) beat me lately cos their lane was ending soon

    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small.     • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
