Given points don't even cross state lines (aka 3 points lost in NSW won't effect your Vic license) I doubt an international licence would gather points.

There is talk of them changing the state rules though but it hasn't been done yet.

hahaha,

that is awesome.. what about this scenario then...

say you hold a Victorian drivers licence, you get booked in NSW and lose your licence, can you go back to Melbourne and keep driving on that same licence?

Wrooooong.

Points do transfer.

Lose license in Vic and they will inform every other state and you'll be done there too.

In fact, interestingly, if you get done in Vic for say 8ks over, which is a $110ish fine and 1 point, once the RTA gets wind of it it becomes 3 points.

^^^my speeding fine in SA never carried Demerit Points back over into VIC.

It doesn't work to Vic.

But do your license in one state and you're done in every state.

The transfer between States is only very recent and may not apply to all scenarios. With a cancelled licence in Vic, someone who shall remain nameless relocated to QLD and got his licence up there nearly 2 years ago. However he has since gone to renew his QLD licence as he eventually moved up there anyway and his Vic points have now been added. This was back in August.

I came to Australia at 19 with my UK licence (the UK licence used to be on watermarked paper before photocards). I was able to drive freely with no P's and once I realised I would be here longer than 3 months, sat my test. I only had to do a theory test as the UK test is hard but the main reason for getting the Vic licence was to start getting a credit history. When they issued it, they put a black stamp on my UK licence saying Vic Roads Licence Issued XX/XX/XX. This was incase I handed my paper one over if I was stopped. Just applied for a new photocard one a few weeks later and said I had lost my UK paper one.

As for points, they don't accrue on an international licence, however if you are Aussie living O/S but back here driving on holiday and get pinged with a camera, they will pursue to your country of residence! This is from experience.

    • Sane enough. Remove the roof liner, because the acid will go everywhere.
    • Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help and experienced opinions.  I have spent a lot of my life working on boats so I'm pretty good with fibreglass. I'll take everybody's advice in here;  I'll cut a little more of the 2nd layer away as it's a bit crunchy rust and also it's sitting high now. Then I'll wire brush it all a bit to get off anything loose, then I'll soak the bejesus out of it all in rust converter. I'll make sure to get a little hose piece and feed it into all the holes and gaps between the roof layers. Then I'll fibreglass up the holes.  Then I'll get a pallet of filler and mix it with 3 buckets of hardener and hope that is enough to build up the roof corner.  Does that sound sane? Is one type of filler better than others for this?
    • My goals for it atm are to get it registered, respray and some mild power gains eventually... I picked up the car from an elderly gentleman near the border of NSW and VIC, its honestly a bit rough and looks like its been driven on a farm (because there was so much dirt underneath). Last week I dropped the subframe and emptied the old fuel out + added a new fuel pump (think the old one went bad from old fuel). Now I'm onto fixing a coolant leak at the rear of the engine + adding a new radiator as the old one is corroded. After that i have a new bumper, coils (as the old were leaking) and lots more
    • Welcome buddy! Plenty on here and YouTube. What are your plans for it? Good luck with the Rwc and Rego bud!
    • Love this so much! Please post a photo when you have a bike on the trailer.  I was a little bit worried about having a tow bar on the Skyline, but having it hidden behind the number plate is genius
