Hey guys, Recently I just got a new job, and my employer has told me that I'll have to do a 'medical'. I havn't been able to contact them since, as it's been holidays.

Having never done one before, what would it entail? Height, weight, eye test, lung capacity etc?

More specifically would it involve a drug test of some sort? I'm not into the illegal stuff, just wanting to know what I would be faced with.

Also what are the legalities regarding said testing? Got into a discussion with my friends and they seem to be under the impression that they have to notify me if it involves a drug test or not, but I need some more advice. I'm assuming it's just for legal and insurance purposes?

Any experiences appreciated.

Thanks.

{edit} The job is for a luxury car dealership in Ossy Park, working in spare parts.

depends. A alot of places like CarePoint offer pre employment medicals as a package deal, and there are differing levels. If the job is mines or refinery based a drug/alcoholtest, mines health test (lung capacity and hearing test) are in the default list, but as its not mines they might have opted for a cheaper level of testing and just want to make sure you are not going to claim back/leg injuries within the first 6 months.

And no, AFAIK they are not required to warn you of drug/alcohol tests (been on a few sites myself where you get no warning, just a tap on the shoulder). You always have the option of refusing these tests (ie, NO ONE can force you to take a drug or alcohol test against your will uinless its the police for traffic reasons) but a refusal to take the test is almost always viewed in the same way as a positive result...

pretty sure it does include a drug screen. so stay off the hash for a while

Thanks.

Not sure if it's done through Care point or Prime I'll have to check with the employer to be 100% I guess.

I used to work for health for industry.. The test consists of a questionnaire which you would be best to answer correctly.. Also a general fitness test may be involved depending on the job

But you also get lung capacity and stuff like that, they may or may not request a drug test, they'll let u no beforehand etc... And the results can only be disclosed with your consent, contrary to popular belief not that many companies do drug testing

including your weiner, i had some work experience girl watch me piss, was real awkward. I work on a minesite and the medicals include drug test, and we can also get tested walking through the gate. Go to your local hydroponics shop and get that flushing liquid if your that worried

except almost all of the "flushing" agents include a masking agent that sets off alarm bells with pretty much all of the testing protocols used currently.

Yeah all good advice, but I doubt it'd even be a problem at all judging by my lack of "exposure" to old mate mary of late. I'm still just wondering if the job itself will need a drug test included with the medical. I've done my reading, and plain and simple old water flushing out your system coupled with vitamin B and iron does a good job of reducing your urine's pH levels and content. THC is stored in fat cells, so aerobic exercise also helps apparently...

NO EXCERCISE FOR A DAY BEFORE THE TEST

Yes, THC bonds to your fat cells but it is only released when you burn those fat cells.

No strenuous excercise for a day or two before the test, particularly on the morning of the test. Also a good idea to have a steak for breakfast on the morning of the test as the iron and proteins will help.. especially if you are flushing yourself with shitloads of water as they can tell that.

Sweet thanks bubba. Judging by the amount that I've been sweating lately (it's been humid as balls in Perth ATM), and given that it's been two weeks since the last pufferoo, I don't think there's gonna be a drama. Plus, im a fairly lean sorta dude and I have a crazy fast metabolism...

Confirmed from my employer that there is indeed a test, done through prime next week so there ya go!

No worries and good luck!

P.S. I've got a mate who blew the test out of the water.. the maximum acceptable amount is 50ppm but he scored so high they had to use another machine (the first machine only read to 500ppm) and he came in at 1950ppm

That is the current record if anyone wants to attempt to beat it :P

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
