sounds like the RB25 VCT.

Advances the Inlet cam something like 15-20degrees and sets it back to normal at 4500rpm.

The complete opposite of VTEC.

Can you get a controller to modify it, so you can specify when it comes on and off? Would be worth the experimentation.

Nah it is completely different, it changes the complete exhaust cam profile over at high revs, eg it is inactive below 4500 rpm and activates from there to redline, where as the VCT just advances the intake cam.

HKS GT-RS sounds like it is made for your application.

I personally would start from scratch and write off the cost (try to get a return credit) and get a T3 turbo with known turbine/compressor housing combos. The cost of buying and machining turbine and compressor housings from here will prove an expensive exercise with no real guarantee of a good result.

It seems it's really better to sell my new chra to someone else and look for gt2871r as it will give me better powerband with same top end.

Are you going externally gated? If so there are some nice Tial turbine housings as an option for a GT2871/GT-RS sized turbos.

I think you are going the best way by re-thinking using the CHRA you have.

Thanks everyone who posted to share thoughts and knowledge!

As for vtec, it changes to different (more aggressive) cam lobes when engaged. ;) Timing and vtec engagement can be adjusted with some great tuning softs through oem Honda ecu.

Wolverine, I was already externaly gated so I will be the same on new turbo.

Disco, what do you think of 2871r's 56 trim version instead of 52trim? I might get good offer for 56trim so I am looking compressor maps to compare ->

But as compressor maps can not show all I would want to hear people experience. Also do you think .63 or .82 exhaust housing would be better choice?

P.S. Hope you and all and Skylines are fine there in Australia because of massive flood.

And if we talk more about anti surge ported housings, why you don't suggest it "hypergear"??

Sorry missed your post earlier. Would you (or any one) know any advantages that should be mentioned in having those anti surge slots in this specific setup?

Hey mate

I've tuned a couple of SR20s that have them, and no, didn't do that good of a job at all. For some reason, I felt a 2871 or a 3076 with small housings would have been better.

Proper ones or the horrible t2 int gated things? With the right cams a proper 3071 will make boost earlier than a 2871 and destroy it up top.

Mine, just a regular -5023 3071 with a .63 rear on a china manifold with short duration big lift cams and springs. engine is stock otherwise.

    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
    • Hi Guys, Does anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for a starter motor to suit the VQ25DET? I can find lots of alternative part number for the VQ35DE, which I assume would fit, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Thanks..
    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
