Hey all,

Planning a few mods for the gtr So i have a few questions for those who have been there done that already

Firstly i plan on installing a Power fc DJ, a pair of adj cam gears and bigger injectors. aiming for around 320kw atw with my -7 turbos and stock camshafts.

Does anyone have pictures of where they have successfuly got their vacuum feeds from for their 2 map sensors without removing the plenum etc?

Has anyone gotten away with replacing cam gears by taking the top timing cover off only? if possible i want to avoid stripping the whole front end.

Ive narrowed down my injector choice down to sard 700cc (black.blue) and sard 800cc (light green colour)

Is it true that the 700cc injectors from sard are a true drop in item? no rewiring involved? has anyone used them before?

What is the most effective way of holding a solid 1.2-1.3bar of boost? Ive had trouble with my profecb in the past, boost falls over at even 1 bar but it never used to do that when the standard boost solenoid was in there.

Any advice is much appreciated!

oz

The profec b shouldnt drop off boost for no reason. What are ur settings? Does it spike then start to fall off.

The 800s are a pain in the butt. U need to modify the stock rail to sit closer and then rewire the plugs. Afaik the 700s drop in.

The cam gears are a tricky one. I suppose u can try and replace them without pulling the lower cover off.

Try getting to the timing belt adjuster but. U have to lever and bend the lower cover a little.

Put on TDC, Then use those strong paper clip holder things to hold the belt to the stock cam gears. Mark on the belt where the cam gear aligner is. Then one at a time pull the stock cam gears off the cams and swap witht the new ones. U will need some one to hold tension on the belt so it doesnt slip a tooth on the crank gear.

I wouldnt recommend doing i this way but u can try and if it doesnt work or the belt slips etc then ur back to square one and u will have to pull the lower cover off to realign it all.

Yep, it spikes then falls over instantly then comes back up then slowly dies off again. Dont know the settings off the top of my head. Are you running a profec?

Well that rules the 800cc's out then haha. Can anyone confirm the 700cc's are drop in?

The cam gear shortcut is sounding abit risky, i will just do it properly.. lol

Thanks for your help dude.

check the flow of the walbro pump and check what it flows at 12v

how to install the map sensors is in the apexi documentation, check the PFC FAQ in my signature

if you want 1.3bar, then run 1.3bar actuators or as close to the target as possible

use your controller as a bleeder and make sure you are only trying to bleed a small amount, ie dont run a 7psi actuator and try to bleed 7psi

agree with that point. have seen too many cars have problems with them to consider having one and not check it's flowing what it should be at whatever voltage it's receiving.

im glad i dont have to bother with that now .. sard 700cc's have been purchased :)

does anyone know how to use restrictors with the stock boost solenoid so that i can run more than 1 bar? it seems its a better boost controller than my profec lol

DVS32R can you explain how you have setup your solenoid? Last time my car got tuned, i left it up to the tuner to install the profec, thinking they know how to do it right but it seems there must be a better way.

You need to modify the rail for 800cc's?, i though it was just changing the plugs over with a bit of crimping and soldering

how do u go abouts bringing the rail closer?

I had to cut a slit in the mounting tabs on the stock rail enough so i could bend them to lower the rail about 10mm. It was dodgy but it worked. Especially when im impatient and wanted to start my fresh motor.

Im sure the prifec is installed right. Go out and get ur settings an let me know what they are at?

LO setting (hits 1.1bar when i floor it then bleeds down to 0.85bar then creeps back up to 0.95bar)

-54%

-gain: 13%

-set gain 0.50 x 100kpa

HI setting (hits 1.2 bar then bleeds down to 1bar then creeps back up to 1.15bar)

-62%

-gain: 13%

-set gain 0.66 x 100kpa

these are the settings i have done myself, the boost control was alot worse than this when i got it back from my tuner, it would hit 1.2bar on HI setting then bleed down to 1 bar.

by increasing the duty cycle of the wastegate and lowering the set gain, i managed to improve the average boost level but it seems that my solenoid is just not setup correctly, making it hard to get the settings right.

im thinking that if i can set it up properly, manipulating the settings should be this hard

My solenoid was mounted in the stock boost solenoids position, the vacuum line at the very back of the plenum was pulled out, this was the line that went to my actuators, a vac line was then put onto that nipple and back to the actuator as a pressure source.

this time round, im going to mount the solenoid on the turbo side of the engine with much shorter and equal length lines to the actuators

or.. i can manipulate the stock boost solenoid to give me 1.3bar of boost

or i can just buy hks actuators lol

Are 700cc injectors on a gtr aiming for around 300awkw too big? Can you get the car to idle properly with them running a nistune ecu?

There going for a good price on eBay at the moment.

My tuner said there overkill I should be getting 550's or 600's at most, but they r way more expensive!

Suppose it's good to have a it of extra room incase the engine gets rebuilt oneday and chase more power, just concerned with idling etc

PM me mate, and ill show ya where to get some cheap brand new injectors

Aslong as they are trimmed down, there should be no difference, i have seen 420awkw made from these 700cc injectors (tangomatts r34 gtr nur) and thats more than ill ever be able to achieve so its got the head room i need too, especially if i want to use e85 later on even these are kind of small...

Only 2 things i need to determine now is how im going to do my dejetro install and boost control and im set :)

if i remember right i pay $300 ish for install of dejetro and injectors by hyperdrive.

I was too lazy to install the sensor.

+1 For HKS actuators, got mine set to 16psi (by pure luck lol) and my blitz id3 bleed it out to 19psi and holds it firm till redline with a set of gt-ss

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
